TaxInfoHelp Toolbar

What is hp.myway.com?
Developers (Mindspark Interactive Network [also known as IAC Applications]) present TaxInfoHelp as a legitimate application that supposedly provides users with access to various tax forms and tax-related information. Initially, TaxInfoHelp may seem legitimate and useful, however, this app often infiltrates systems without permission.
In addition, it stealthily modifies browser settings. For these reasons, TaxInfoHelp is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and a browser hijacker.
TaxInfoHelp promotes a fake web search engine (hp.myway.com) and, following infiltration, hijacks Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, stealthily assigning the new tab URL, homepage, and default search engine options to hp.myway.com Although these changes may seem insignificant, users are unable to revert them.
Research shows that TaxInfoHelp continues to reassign browser options when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, as long as TaxInfoHelp is present, returning browsers to their previous states is impossible and users are encouraged to visit hp.myway.com when they search via the URL bar or simply open a new browser tab.
This significantly diminishes the web browsing experience. Although TaxInfoHelp is not confirmed to record information, most browser hijackers perform this function. These apps are typically designed to record data such as IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, keystrokes, geolocations, and so on.
Gathered information typically includes personal details that developers share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing personal information.
Therefore, the presence of data-tracking applications can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to eliminate TaxInfoHelp and other browser-hijacking apps immediately.

Mindspark Interactive Network has released dozens of browser-hijacking applications identical to TaxInfoHelp including ThePresidentSays, BitcoinPriceSearch, and BabyNameReady - these are just some examples from many. Although the functionality is different, the behavior of these apps is identical. In fact, all browser-hijacking PUPs are very similar.
By claiming to enable "useful features", PUPs attempt to give the impression of legitimacy, however, these applications are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than delivering any real value for regular users, browser hijackers cause unwanted redirects (thereby promoting deceptive sites, most of which are fake search engines) and gather sensitive information. Fake search engines feed users with intrusive advertisements (coupons, banners, etc.) and false results leading to malicious websites. Therefore, using them might lead to various computer infections.
How did TaxInfoHelp install on my computer?
TaxInfoHelp has an official download/promotion website, however, due to the lack of knowledge and careless behavior of many users, this PUP often infiltrates systems without permission. Developers promote this PUP using intrusive advertising and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
Intrusive advertisements redirect to rogue websites and execute scripts that stealthily download and install malware. "Bundling" is stealth installation of third party apps together with regular software. Developers do not disclose this information properly - they hide "bundled" apps within various sections (e.g., "Custom/Advanced" settings) of the download or installation processes.
Furthermore, many users click advertisements and skip download/installation steps, thereby exposing their systems to risk of various infections and compromising their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to safety is caution. Therefore, pay close attention when browsing the Internet and downloading/installing software. Note that developers invest many resources into intrusive ad design.
Distinguishing them easy, since most lead to dubious websites (gambling, adult dating, pornography, etc.) These ads are often delivered by adware-type PUPs. If you encounter them, immediately remove all dubious applications and browser plug-ins. Furthermore, carefully observe all download/installation steps and opt-out of additionally-included programs.
We advise you to download your applications from official sources only, using direct download links. Third party downloaders/installers often include rogue programs, and thus, these tools should never be used.
If your computer is already infected with TaxInfoHelp, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
