Search.lavradoor.com Redirect (Mac)

What is Lavradoor?
Lavradoor is a rogue application that supposedly allows users to download and install applications. On initial inspection, Lavradoor may seem legitimate and useful, however, this app is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and a browser hijacker.
There are three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) stealth installation without consent; 2) promotion of a fake web search engine [search.lavradoor.com], and; 3) tracking of browsing activity.
Following infiltration, Lavradoor hijacks Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, stealthily assigning the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options to search.lavradoor.com These changes may seem insignificant, however, users are unable to revert them. Lavradoor reassigns browser settings when attempts are made to change them.
Therefore, as long as this browser hijacker is present, returning browsers to their previous states is impossible and users are forced to visit search.lavradoor.com when they open a new browser tab or search via the URL bar. This significantly diminishes the browsing experience.
Note that once a search query is entered, search.lavradoor.com redirects users to search.yahoo.com and they end up searching the web via Yahoo (a legitimate web search engine). This makes search.lavradoor.com useless. Be aware that search.lavradoor.com and Lavradoor record information that typically includes personal details.
IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other collected information is later shared with third parties.
These people (potentially, cyber criminals) misuse private information to generate revenue. These third parties pose a direct threat to your privacy. Therefore, you are strongly advised to eliminate the Lavradoor browser hijacker and never return to search.lavradoor.com

There are hundreds of browser-hijacking applications, all of which are virtually identical. By offering "useful features", PUPs attempt to give the impression of legitimacy and trick users to install. These programs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
All of their claims are false and these programs give no real value for regular users. Browser hijackers cause unwanted redirects (thereby promoting rogue websites, most of which are fake search engines) and gather sensitive information.
In addition, some fake search engines feed users with misleading results and intrusive advertisements (coupons, banners, and similar). These typically lead to dubious websites and can lead to various computer infections.
How did Lavradoor install on my computer?
Lavradoor has an official download website, however, due to the lack of knowledge and careless behavior of many users, this PUP often infiltrates the system without permission. Developers proliferate this browser hijacker using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" and intrusive advertisements.
"Bundling" is essentially stealth installation of PUPs together with regular software. Developers do not disclose PUP installations properly - all are concealed within "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes. Intrusive ads redirect to malicious websites and execute scripts that download and install PUPs (or even malware).
Many users are likely to skip download/installation steps and click various advertisements. In doing so, they expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to safety is caution. Therefore, to prevent this situation, be very careful when browsing the Internet and downloading/installing software.
Intrusive advertisements typically seem legitimate, since developers invest many resources into their design, however, most lead to dubious websites (pornography, gambling, survey, and so on). They are usually delivered by adware-type PUPs. If you experience suspicious redirects, immediately eliminate all dubious applications and browser plug-ins.
Furthermore, select "Custom/Advanced" settings and closely analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs. Opt-out of all additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them. You are advised to download your programs from official sources only, using direct download links.
Third party downloaders/installers often include rogue apps (they are monetize using the "bundling" method). Therefore, using these tools is not recommended. If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
