Onclickbright.com POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is onclickbright.com?
Similar to pttsite.com, obeyter.com, performingtraffic.com, and many others, onclickbright.com is a rogue site designed to cause redirects to other dubious (potentially, malicious) websites. Research shows that many visitors arrive at onclickbright.com inadvertently - they are redirected by intrusive ads (displayed by other rogue sites) or potentially unwanted programs (PUPs).
Be aware that potentially unwanted programs typically infiltrate systems without consent and, as well as causing redirects, deliver intrusive ads and gather sensitive data.
Potentially unwanted programs open new browser tabs/windows and redirect to onclickbright.com. Immediately after visiting this site, users encounter several (typically 2 or 3) consecutive redirects to other malicious sites, at least one of which is likely to contain malicious content. Therefore, redirects to/from onclickbright.com can lead to various system infections.
The same applies to intrusive advertisements. PUPs deliver coupon, banner, pop-up, and other similar ads. Some redirect to malicious sites and even execute scripts that stealthily download and install PUPs/malware. Therefore, clicking them can also lead to system infections.
In addition, intrusive ads are delivered using various tools (e.g., "virtual layers") that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site. These ads often conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience. Another significant downside is data tracking.
Research shows that potentially unwanted programs gather IP addresses, Internet Service providers (ISPs), geographic locations, URLs visited, pages viewed, queries entered into search engines, keystrokes, and other information that includes personal details.
This data is later shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate. Therefore, having data-tracking apps installed on your computer might lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall all potentially unwanted programs immediately.

There are hundreds of PUPs, all of which are virtually identical. By offering a wide range of "useful functions", potentially unwanted programs attempt to give the impression of legitimacy. Be aware, however, that all PUPs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
They provide no real value for regular users. Potentially unwanted programs cause unwanted programs, deliver intrusive ads, and record sensitive data, thereby posing a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety.
How did adware install on my computer?
Some PUPs have official download websites. Despite this, most infiltrate systems without permission due to the careless behavior and lack of knowledge of many users. Developers proliferate PUPs using intrusive advertisements, together with a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" (stealth installation of third party programs together with regular software/apps).
Developers know that many users rush when downloading and installing software. Therefore, they hide "bundled" programs within various sections (typically "Custom" or "Advanced" settings) of the download/installation processes.
Therefore, clicking advertisements and skipping download/installation steps often leads to inadvertent installation of rogue apps. In this way, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent PUP infiltration, be very cautious during the download/installation processes, and when browsing the Internet. Select "Custom/Advanced" settings and closely analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs. Opt-out of all additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them. If you are unable to do so, cancel the entire procedure.
In addition, we advise you to download your software from official sources only (from direct download links) rather than using third party downloaders/installers. These tools are monetized using the "bundling" method (promoting PUPs) and, therefore, should never be used.
Furthermore, intrusive ads typically seem legitimate, since developers invest time and money into their design, but most lead to dubious websites (survey, gambling, pornography, and similar). If you encounter these redirects, immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins.
