Performingtraffic.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is performingtraffic.com?
performingtraffic.com is a rogue site identical to bestadbid.com, allbest.mobi, securecloud-dl.com, and many others. It redirects users to various potentially malicious websites.
Research shows that many users visit performingtraffic.com inadvertently - they are redirected by potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that typically infiltrate systems without permission, or intrusive ads delivered by other untrustworthy sites. As well as causing redirects, PUPs are also likely to deliver intrusive ads and gather information relating to web browsing activity.
Following infiltration, PUPs open new browser tabs/windows and redirect to performingtraffic.com. Users then encounter several (typically 2-3) consecutive redirects to other dubious websites. At least one is likely to contain malicious content. Therefore, redirects to and from performingtraffic.com might lead to various computer infections.
With regard to redirects, PUPs deliver advertisements (coupons, banners, pop-ups, etc.) that often redirect to malicious sites and even execute scripts that download/install malware. Therefore, even a single click can result in high-risk system infections. These ads are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site.
In this way, they conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience. PUPs record IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, keystrokes, geo-locations, and other information relating to web browsing habits.
The data usually includes private details that are later shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). These people generate revenue by misusing private information. Therefore, the presence of data-tracking apps can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. All potentially unwanted programs must be eliminated immediately.

The Internet is full of PUPs, all of which are virtually identical. By offering a wide range of "useful features", potentially unwanted programs attempt to give the impression of legitimacy and trick users to install, however, their only purpose is to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than enabling the functions promised, PUPs deliver intrusive ads, cause unwanted redirects, and gather sensitive data, thereby posing a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety.
How did adware install on my computer?
In some cases, potentially unwanted programs have official download websites, however, most (even those with official sites) infiltrate systems without permission. Developers promote them using intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
They hide "bundled" apps within "Custom/Advanced" settings or other sections of the download/installation processes. Many users rush these procedures and skip steps. In addition, they often click various advertisements without understanding the possible consequences. This behavior exposes their systems to risk of various infections and compromises their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to safety is caution. Therefore, pay close attention when browsing the Internet and downloading/installing programs. Intrusive ads typically seem legitimate, but once clicked, redirect to gambling, adult dating, pornography, and other dubious websites.
If you encounter these ads, uninstall all dubious applications and browser plug-ins. It is also very important to select "Custom/Advanced" options and carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs. Opt-out of all additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them.
Note that developers monetize third party downloaders/installers by promoting ("bundling") PUPs and, thus, these tools should not be used. Download your apps from official sources only, using direct download links.
