Streamit-online.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is feed.streamit-online.com?
feed.streamit-online.com is a fake web search engine that supposedly enhances the browsing experience by generating improved results.
This functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, developers promote this website using a browser-hijacking app called Stream-it, which claims to allow users to listen to various radio stations via the Internet. In addition, feed.streamit-online.com and Stream-it record information relating to web browsing habits.
Stream-it targets Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Following infiltration, it assigns the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options to feed.streamit-online.com Furthermore, although these changes may seem insignificant, users are unable to revert them.
Research shows that this potentially unwanted program (PUP) reassigns browser options when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, as long as Stream-it is present, returning browsers to their previous states is impossible and users are encouraged to visit feed.streamit-online.com when they open a new browser tab or simply search via the URL bar.
This significantly diminishes the browsing experience. Note that once a search query is entered, feed.streamit-online.com redirects to search.yahoo.com - a legitimate web search engine. Users simply end up searching the web via Yahoo, thus making feed.streamit-online.com useless. Another important issue is information tracking.
Both feed.streamit-online.com and Stream-it record information relating to web browsing activity. Collected data (IP addresses, websites visited, search queries, and similar) includes personal details that developers sell to third parties. These people generate revenue by misusing personal information.
Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly recommend that you uninstall the Stream-it browser hijacker and never return to feed.streamit-online.com

feed.streamit-online.com is identical to feed.video-browse.com, feed.emoji-search.com, feed.performanceometer.com, and a number of other fake search engines.
By offering improved search results, these sites attempt to give the impression of legitimacy, however, fake search engines (and browser-hijacking PUPs) are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than providing the functions promised, these sites cause unwanted redirects and gather sensitive data.
In some cases, fake web search engines feed users with misleading results and intrusive ads, leading to dubious websites. Therefore, using these sites can lead to system infections.
How did Stream-it install on my computer?
Stream-it is provided via number of different websites, however, due to the lack of knowledge and careless behavior of many users, this PUP often infiltrates systems without permission. Developers proliferate this browser hijacker using intrusive advertising and "bundling" methods.
Intrusive ads redirect to malicious websites and execute scripts that stealthily download/install PUPs (or even malware). "Bundling", on the other hand, is stealth installation of PUPs with regular software. Developers hide "bundled programs within various sections (typically "Custom" or "Advanced" settings) of the download/installation processes.
Furthermore, many users are likely to click advertisements and skip download/installation steps, thus exposing their systems to risk of various infections and compromising their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to safety is caution. Therefore, pay close attention during the download/installation processes and when browsing the Internet. Select "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs.
Opt-out of all additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them. We also advise you to download your programs from official sources only using direct download links. Third party downloaders/installers are monetized using the "bundling" method, and thus should not be used.
Bear in mind that intrusive ads typically seem legitimate, but once clicked, redirect to dubious websites such as gambling, adult dating, pornography, survey, and similar. These ads are usually displayed by adware-type programs - if you encounter them, check the list of installed applications/browser extensions and eliminate any suspicious entries.
