OfferssDirect Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is OfferssDirect?
OfferssDirect is a deceptive application that supposedly provides various shopping coupons and notifies users of special deals/discounts available in various online shops. In doing so, OfferssDirect supposedly saves time and money. Many users believe that this app is legitimate and useful, however, it is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
There are three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) stealth installation without users' consent; 2) display of malicious advertisements, and; 3) tracking of various information (mostly relating to web browsing habits).
Immediately after infiltration, OfferssDirect delivers 'malvertising' ads (e.g., coupons, banners, pop-ups, etc.) These are displayed using various tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site. The ads often conceal underlying content of visited websites, thereby significantly diminishing users' Internet browsing experience.
Furthermore, some lead to malicious websites and/or execute scripts designed to download/install malware/PUPs. Therefore, clicking them can cause high-risk computer infections. This application allows developers to generate fraudulent advertising revenue.
As mentioned above, OfferssDirect also gathers various sensitive data (e.g., websites visited, pages viewed, queries entered into search engines, IP addresses, etc.) The collected data might contain private details. OfferssDirect's developers commonly sell this information to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).
Thus, the presence of an information-tracking app can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Research shows that some potentially unwanted programs are known to misuse system resources to run unwanted processes in the background (e.g., mining cryptocurrency).
The presence of these applications results in a significant reduction in overall computer performance. We strongly advise you to uninstall OfferssDirect adware immediately.

OfferssDirect is very similar to Awesome Dealers, MediaDownloader, Search App, and dozens of other adware-type applications. Note that all offer different functionality, however, these claims are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy and to trick users to install. In fact, all have identical behavior.
Adware-type applications such as OfferssDirect are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
Most deliver no real value for regular users - only a small percentage provide the functionality promised. PUPs deliver 'malvertising' ads (via the "Pay Per Click" advertising model), gather information, and, in some cases, misuse system resources. These programs pose a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety.
How did OfferssDirect install on my computer?
OfferssDirect is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, this PUP is also proliferated using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" and 'malvertising' ads. Due to lack of knowledge and careless behavior by many users, OfferssDirect often infiltrates systems without permission.
"Bundling" is stealth installation of third party software with regular apps. Developers hide "bundled" apps within the "Custom/Advanced" settings or other sections of the download/installation processes - they do not disclose this information properly.
Users often rush these processes and skip steps. In addition, they click various ads. This behavior leads to inadvertent installation of malicious apps.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to computer safety is caution. Therefore, pay close attention when browsing the Internet and especially when downloading/installing software.
Many malicious ads appear genuine (since criminals invest a great deal of resources into their design), however, once clicked, they are identifiable by redirects to survey, gambling, pornography, adult dating, and other dubious websites. As mentioned above, 'malvertising' ads are often delivered via PUPs.
Therefore, if you encounter them, uninstall all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins without delay. Furthermore, carefully analyze each step of the download/installation processes and opt-out of all additionally-included programs.
Bear in mind, however, that third party downloaders/installers are monetized using the "bundling" method (they promote other dubious software). Therefore, your applications should be downloaded from official/trusted sources only.
