Kariloo Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Kariloo?
Kariloo is a deceptive application claiming to help users to find content on the Internet. Initially, Kariloo may appear legitimate and useful, however, this app infiltrates systems without consent. Furthermore, it displays intrusive online advertisements and monitors browsing activity. For these reasons, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
Kariloo adware generates various intrusive advertisements (for example, pop-up, coupon, banner, etc.) These often lead to malicious websites and proliferate additional PUPs. Therefore, even accidental clicks might result in high-risk adware or malware infections.
Displayed ads conceal underlying content, significantly diminishing the web browsing experience. There is a high probability that Kariloo will record user-system information that might be personally identifiable (behavior common to PUPs).
Furthermore, PUP developers share these details with third parties who generate revenue by misusing personal information. Therefore, the presence of an information-tracking app can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly recommend that you eliminate the Kariloo PUP immediately.

The Internet is full of adware-type apps similar to Kariloo. The list of examples includes (but is not limited to) Fooriza, Tabs2Grid, ShutDownTime, Bookmarks Access, and Right-Click Search. By offering various 'useful features', PUPs attempt to trick users to install, however, these programs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
Their only purpose is to deliver intrusive advertisements (via the "Pay Per Click" advertising model) and continually gather private information (which is later sold to third parties).
How did Kariloo install on my computer?
Some PUPs (including Kariloo) have official download websites, however, they are also distributed using rogue download/installation set-ups (the "bundling" method) and intrusive online advertisements. Bundling is stealth installation of third party applications with regular software/apps.
Developers hide bundled programs within the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings of the download/installation processes. Intrusive ads either redirect to malicious websites or activate scripts that download/install rogue applications. Many users rush the download/installation processes and click various advertisements, thereby exposing their systems to risk of various infections.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent system infiltration by PUPs, be very cautious when browsing the Internet. Closely analyze each download/installation step using the "Custom/Advanced" settings and decline offers to download/install third party software.
Furthermore, express caution and never click any displayed advertisements. Careless behavior is one of the main reasons for computer infections. The key to computer safety is caution.
