Bookmarks Access Adware

What is Bookmarks Access?
Bookmarks Access is a deceptive application that falsely claims to allow easy access and control of browser bookmarks. Judging on appearance alone, Bookmarks Access may seem legitimate and useful, however, this app is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and a browser hijacker.
There are three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) stealth installation without consent; 2) display of intrusive online advertisements, and; 3) tracking of users' Internet browsing activity.
Following infiltration, Bookmarks Access delivers pop-up, coupon, banner, and other similar advertisements. To achieve this, developers employ a "virtual layer" - a tool that enables placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, displayed ads often conceal underlying content, significantly diminishing the browsing experience.
Furthermore, they often redirect to malicious websites, and even accidental clicks can result in high-risk adware or malware infections. Another downside is information tracking. Bookmarks Access continually monitors browsing activity by recording IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar data.
This information might contain personal details that developers of Bookmarks Access adware share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing private data. This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, uninstall Bookmarks Access adware immediately.

Bookmarks Access is identical to Bookmarks Button, History Open, History Button, and Open Plugins. Although these programs offer different functionality, they have identical behavior. By offering 'useful features', adware-type applications attempt to give the impression of legitimacy, however, their only purpose is to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than providing any value for regular users, adware-type apps deliver intrusive online advertisements (via the "Pay Per Click" advertising model) and continually record various user-system information (which is later sold to third parties).
How did Bookmarks Access install on my computer?
Bookmarks Access is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, developers also distribute it by employing a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
They hide Bookmarks Access within the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings of the download/installation processes. Rushing these processes and skipping steps exposes systems to risk of various infections and compromises users' privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two simple steps you should take to prevent this situation. Firstly, never rush when downloading and installing software - carefully analyze each step using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Secondly, decline offers to download/install additional applications and cancel those already included.
IMPORTANT NOTE! Bookmarks Access installs its Google Chrome extension as Administrator (read more here), thereby preventing removal. Therefore, before taking any further removal steps, perform these actions:
1) Open the Command Prompt by clicking the start menu button and typing "command prompt". Right click the "Command Prompt" result and select "Run as Administrator":
2) Execute the following commands:
- rd /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicyUsers"
