What is Il computer è stato BLOCCATO?
"Il computer è stato BLOCCATO" is a fake pop-up error message displayed by a deceptive website that users often visit inadvertently - they are redirected by various potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that infiltrate systems without permission (the "bundling" method).
In addition to issuing unwanted redirects, PUPs deliver intrusive advertisements and continually record various user-system information.
The "Il computer è stato BLOCCATO" error message states that the computer is infected, personal information (banking details, logins/passwords, so on so forth) is at risk, and that the malware must be removed immediately. Victims are encouraged to contact "technical support" via a telephone number ("06 94 80 86 61") provided.
They then supposedly receive help in resolving this issue. "Il computer è stato BLOCCATO" message is in Italian and thus it is safe to assume that criminals target users from Italy. Be aware, however, that the "Il computer è stato BLOCCATO" error is fake. Cyber criminals attempt to scare and trick users into calling technical support and paying for services that are not required.
Therefore, ignore this error - it can be removed simply by closing the web browser. Most PUPs deliver coupon, banner, pop-up, and other similar intrusive ads. These often conceal underlying website content, significantly diminishing the browsing experience.
In addition, they can lead to other malicious websites - clicking them can result in high-risk adware or malware infections. PUPs also record IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar information that might be personally identifiable.
This collected data is later shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing private information. The presence of information-tracking apps can thus lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.

There are many scams virtually identical to "Il computer è stato BLOCCATO" including Windows 10 Technical Support, You Have A ZEUS Virus, and Windows Health Is Critical.
These are just some examples from many. All state that the system is infected, missing files, or damaged in other similar ways, however, as with Il computer è stato BLOCCATO, these errors are also designed only to trick users into paying for services that are not required.
They should be ignored. PUPs also have an identical purpose: to generate revenue for the developers. Most of these apps offer a range of 'useful features', however, PUPs are useless for regular users, since they merely cause redirects, display advertisements, and continually monitor browsing activity.
How did adware install on my computer?
As mentioned above, PUPs are distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Developers hide all bundled programs within the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings of the download/installation processes. Users often rush these processes and skip steps. In doing so, they expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
PUPs are distributed using the "bundling" method. Therefore, never rush the download or installation processes. Carefully analyze each step using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Furthermore, decline offers to download/install additional applications. Never install bundled software.
