Mobytize.mobi Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is mobytize.mobi?
mobytize.mobi is a rogue website that redirects users to other suspicious sites. It is identical to many other suspicious websites such as hopto.today, leadzupc.com, and we-re-almost-there.com.
Furthermore, users visit mobytize.mobi inadvertently - they are redirected by various potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Be aware that PUPs also deliver intrusive advertisements and continually gather user-system data.
Following infiltration, PUPs generate new pop-up browsing windows at random and redirect users to mobytize.mobi, which, in turn, immediately redirects them to other random websites that contain malicious content. Therefore, redirects can result in high-risk adware or malware infections. In addition, PUPs deliver coupon, banner, pop-up, and other similar advertisements.
These advertisements often conceal underlying content, significantly diminishing the web browsing experience. These ads might lead to malicious websites - clicking them can result in various computer infections. Furthermore, PUPs record various user-system information that might contain personal details.
The list of collected data includes (but is not limited to) IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, and search queries. This information is shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse private details to generate revenue.
Therefore, the presence of data-tracking applications might lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to uninstall all PUPs immediately.
There are hundreds of PUPs, all of which are virtually identical. Most claim to provide 'useful functionality', however, they are designed only to generate revenue for the developers and give no significant value for regular users.
In fact, PUPs cause unwanted redirects (thereby generating traffic for various websites), deliver intrusive advertisements (via the "Pay Per Click" advertising model), and continually gather various information (which is later sold to third parties).
How did adware install on my computer?
To proliferate PUPs developers employ a deceptive marketing method called "bundling", since they are aware that users often rush the download/installation processes and skip steps. Therefore, bundled programs are hidden within the "Custom/Advanced" settings.
Skipping this section often leads to inadvertent installation of rogue applications. In addition, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two simple steps you should take to prevent this situation. Firstly, analyze all download/installation steps using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Secondly, decline offers to download/install additional applications and cancel those already included. The key to computer safety is caution.
