Weather Inspect Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Weather Inspect?
Weather Inspect is a rogue application that supposedly allows users to check local weather forecasts. Initially, this app may seem legitimate and useful, however, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
There are three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) stealth installation without consent; 2) display of intrusive advertisements, and; 3) tracking of users' Internet browsing activity.
Following infiltration, Weather Inspect displays intrusive advertisements via pop-up windows that redirect to rogue websites (such as hts68934.com, safe-redirections.com, data1rtb.com, etc.) that, in turn, redirect to other sites. Therefore, users might be forced to visit site containing malicious content. These redirects can lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, Weather Inspect continually gathers various information (for example, IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, queries entered into search engines, etc.) that might contain personal details. Developers share this collected information with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse private details to generate revenue.
The presence of an information-tracking app such as Weather Inspect can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, we strongly advise you to uninstall Weather Inspect adware immediately.
Weather Inspect shares many similarities with Innovia Secure Shopping, Search App, BlockAdsPro, Shoppr, and hundreds of other adware-type applications. As with Weather Inspect, these programs also offer various 'useful features', however, these claims are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy.
In fact, PUPs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than providing any significant value for regular users, programs such as Weather Inspect deliver intrusive online advertisements (via the "Pay Per Click" advertising model) and continually record various user-system information (which is later shared with third parties to generate revenue).
How did Weather Inspect install on my computer?
Weather Inspect adware has an official download website, however, it is also distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
Therefore, many users install this PUP inadvertently without their consent, since they often rush the download/installation processes and skip steps. Aware of this, developers hide bundled programs within the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Skipping this section exposes systems to risk of various infections and compromises users' privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent system infiltration by PUPs, be very cautious when downloading and installing software. Select the "Custom/Advanced" settings, analyze each step, and decline offers to download/install additional applications. The key to computer safety is caution.
