EZSearch Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is EZSearch?
EZSearch is a rogue application that infiltrates systems during installation of other (usually free) software. This deceptive marketing method is called "bundling".
Following successful infiltration, EZSearch generates various intrusive online advertisements and continually tracks users' Internet browsing activity. For these reasons, this app is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
EZSearch employs a 'virtual layer' to generate pop-up, banner, coupon, and other similar advertisements. The virtual layer enables placement of third party graphical content on any site. The unwanted ads often conceal underlying content of visited websites, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
Furthermore, some redirect to malicious websites containing infectious content - even accidental clicks can result in high-risk adware or malware infections.
Be aware that users' web browsing activity is monitored, since EZSearch continually gathers various data that might be personally identifiable including geo-locations, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, queries entered into search engines, and URLs visited - these are just some examples from many recorded data types.
The collected information is shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing personal details. Therefore, the presence of an information-tracking app on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly advise you to eliminate EZSearch adware from your computer immediately.
There are hundreds of adware-type applications that share similarities with EZSearch. As with EZSearch, apps such as MarvelSound, SavingsCool, Slithermon, and many others, also infiltrate the system, deliver intrusive online advertisements, and collect private data.
Note that most adware-type apps offer a wide range of 'useful functionality', however, these claims are merely attempts to trick users to install. Adware is designed only to generate revenue for the developers and is useless for regular users.
How did EZSearch install on my computer?
Developers proliferate EZSearch using bundling (stealth installation of PUPs with regular applications). Many users rush the download/installation processes and skip most steps. Aware of this, developers conceal EZSearch within the "Custom/Advanced" settings of the download or installation processes.
Skipping this section often leads to inadvertent installation of rogue applications such as EZSearch.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of PUPs can be prevented by taking two simple steps. First, closely analyze the download/installation processes using the "Custom/Advanced" settings. Second, decline offers to download/install additional applications and opt-out of those already included. The key to computer safety is caution.
