What is SavingsCool?
SavingsCool is an updated version of MySafeSavings adware. By claiming to save time and money while helping online, SavingsCool attempts to give the impression of legitimacy. Be aware, however, that this app often infiltrates systems without users' consent.
Furthermore, it displays intrusive online advertisements and gathers various information relating to Internet browsing activity. For these reasons, SavingsCool is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
SavingsCool delivers pop-up, coupon, banner, and other similar advertisements. To achieve this, developers employ a 'virtual layer' - a tool that enables placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, displayed advertisements often conceal underlying content of visited websites, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience.
Furthermore, these ads can lead to malicious websites containing infectious content - clicking them is risky and can result in various computer infections. SavingsCool continually records IP addresses, search queries, websites visited, pages viewed, and other similar information relating to users' Internet browsing activity.
This collected data might contain personal details that developers share with cooperating third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). These people misuse personal information to generate revenue.
Thus, the presence of an information-tracking app such as SavingsCool on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall SavingsCool adware immediately.
The Internet is full of adware-type applications similar to SavingsCool. Examples include Trezaa, Slithermon, Traffic Exchange, and hundreds of others. Note that these applications offer different functions, however, all have identical behavior. By offering 'useful functionality', apps such as SavingsCool often trick users into believing that they are legitimate.
In fact, all adware is designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than providing any significant value for regular users, adware-type applications collect personally identifiable information (which is later sold to third parties) and deliver intrusive online advertisements (via the "Pay Per Click" [PPC] advertising model).
How did SavingsCool install on my computer?
To distribute SavingsCool, developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" since they know that most users rush the download/installation processes and skip steps.
They hide bundled programs within the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Users who skip this section inadvertently install rogue applications such as SavingsCool. Set-ups distributing this PUP can modify web browser Proxy settings.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
As mentioned above, PUPs are distributed using the bundling method. Therefore, never rush the download or installation processes. Closely analyze each step using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Furthermore, cancel all third party apps listed for download/installation.
