Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is search.boydubed.com?
Identical to search.kyushuplow.com, search.inkcamel.com, search.ratplee.com, and a number of other deceptive websites, search.boydubed.com is a deceptive site that claims to be a legitimate Internet search engine. By falsely claiming to generate the most relevant search results, search.boydubed.com attempts to trick users into believing that it is legitimate.
In fact, developers of this bogus site promote it using deceptive software 'installers' designed to hijack web browsers and stealthily modify various settings. In addition, search.boydubed.com continually tracks users' web browsing activity.
Deceptive application installers assign the Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome new tab URL/homepage/default search engine options to search.boydubed.com. 'Helper objects' (third party browser plug-ins/applications) are then installed to reassign these settings when users attempt to change them.
Thus, users are unable to return browsers to their previous states. This leads to continual unwanted browser redirects, significantly diminishing the web browsing experience.
Another downside of this bogus website is information tracking. search.boydubed.com records IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar information that is shared with third parties. Data collected in this way is often personally identifiable and misused by third parties to generate revenue.
Thus, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If you are continually redirected to search.boydubed.com without your consent, uninstall all recently-installed applications and never visit this site again.
Research shows that fake Internet search engines are often very similar. All falsely claim to generate the most relevant search results, however, these fake promises are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimate software.
In fact, none these sites provides any real value for users. search.boydubed.com, and other similar websites, are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
They cause unwanted browser redirects (thereby increasing traffic of other websites), gather private data (which is later sold to third parties), and generate intrusive online advertisements (using the 'Pay Per Click’ [PPC] advertising model).
How did search.boydubed.com install on my computer?
search.boydubed.com is promoted using deceptive marketing method called 'bundling'. Developers know that many users do not express enough caution during download/installation processes and intentionally conceal details regarding modification of browser settings within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' download/installation section.
By skipping this section, users inadvertently grant setups permission to modify various settings.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two simple steps you should take to prevent PUPs from system infiltration. Firstly, closely analyze each step within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings of download and installation processes. Secondly, cancel all additionally-included programs listed for download/installation.
