What is GamingTreasure?
GamingTreasure is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that supposedly allows users to play various addictive arcade games. On initial inspection, GamingTreasure may seem legitimate and useful, however, research shows that this PUP is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
One of the main reasons for these negative associations is stealth installation without users' consent. Intrusive online advertisements are displayed and users' web browsing activity is tracked.
GamingTreasure records IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and a number of other information types relating to users' web browsing activity. Some users may believe that this information is insignificant, however, it might contain personally identifiable details that the developers of GamingTreasure share with cooperating third party companies.
Private data is often misused by developers to generate revenue. This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. In addition, GamingTreasure employs a 'virtual layer' to generate pop-up, banner, coupon, and other similar ads.
These do not originate from users' visited websites and often conceal underlying website content, thereby significantly diminishing the web browsing experience. In addition, some redirect to malicious websites and even accidental clicks can lead to further adware or malware infections. We strongly advise you to uninstall GamingTreasure adware immediately.
This PUP is identical to DonutArcade, ArmorArcade, ArcadeSoda, and a number of other dubious applications. In fact, virtually all adware-type programs have identical behavior - they attempt to trick users to install by promising a number of 'valuable features'.
Rather than providing these functions, potentially unwanted programs such as GamingTreasure collect personally identifiable information and deliver intrusive online advertisements. Some also cause unwanted browser redirects.
How did GamingTreasure install on my computer?
GamingTreasure is free for anyone to download on its official promotion site, however, many users install this application inadvertently, since they do not pay enough attention during the download and installation processes.
Developers of GamingTreasure employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of PUPs with regular software. They hide all PUPs within the 'Custom/Advanced' download/installation section. Skipping this section often leads to inadvertent installation of bogus programs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Pay close attention when downloading and installing software. Select the 'Custom/Advanced' settings, carefully observe each step, and cancel all additionally-included programs listed for download/installation.
