Discovered by malware security researcher, S!Ri, GANDCRAB V5.0 is an updated variant of high-risk ransomware called GANDCRAB 3. Immediately after infiltration, GANDCRAB V5.0 encrypts most stored data, making it impossible to use.
In doing so, GANDCRAB V5.0 appends filenames with a random extension (e.g., "sample.jpg" might be renamed to a filename such as "sample.jpg.vsvdv").
Once encryption is complete, GANDCRAB V5.0 changes the desktop wallpaper and generates an HTML file (e.g., "VSVDV-DECRYPT.html"), placing a copy in every existing folder. Other known versions of this ransomware are GANDCRAB 5.0.1, GANDCRAB5.0.2, and GANDCRAB5.0.4

Qinynore is a high-risk ransomware-type virus that was discovered by Karsten Hahn. This is an open-source virus based on a ransomware project called Hidden Tear. For example: a file called "1.jpg" becomes "1.jpg.anonymous". Qinynore also changes the desktop wallpaper and places a copy of the "YOU_MUST_READ_ME.rtf" file in every encrypted folder.
