MS-SYSINFO32 POP-UP Scam

What is MS-SYSINFO32 scam?

"MS-SYSINFO32" is one of many fake virus, alert, error, and other messages that include We Couldn't Activate Windows, Your System Data Has Been Compromized, and Windows Support Alert.

These bogus messages usually appear when users visit untrustworthy/deceptive websites, however, they are also caused by unwanted applications that force redirects to them. Generally, users install unwanted apps inadvertently and, once installed, cause unwanted redirects, deliver ads, and collect data.

VKOKAdBlock Adware

What is VKOKAdBlock?

VKOKAdBlock is an adware-type application that is categorized as a PUA (potentially unwanted application). Most adware-type apps are categorized in this way. Furthermore, many users install these applications unintentionally - they then go on to deliver various advertisements and gather information.

WebShield Adware

What is WebShield?

According to the developers, the WebShield browser offers a privacy-enhanced browsing experience. This browser is based on Chromium project, a legitimate open-source project, however, in many cases, this project is misused as a platform for potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) including adware browsers such as WebShield.

HiDef Media Player Adware

What is HiDef Media Player?

HiDef Media Player is another dubious application presented as a high quality audio/video player.

On initial inspection, HiDef Media Player may seem to be a simple and useful app, however, this application is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted application (PUA) that infiltrates systems without permission, delivers intrusive advertisements, and gathers information relating to browsing habits.

Super Tuneup Anti-Malware Unwanted Application

What is Super Tuneup Anti-Malware?

According to the developers, Super Tuneup Anti-Malware is a high quality spyware 'scan and clean' engine that finds and removes any malware infections and provides protection shields against future threats. Startup Maximizer Unwanted Application

What is Startup Maximizer?

The Startup Maximizer app is designed to eliminate inefficiencies that affect the computer start-up process and improve performance. This may seem to be a useful tool, however, users often install Startup Maximizer unintentionally and it is thus categorized as potentially unwanted application (PUA). Typically, PUAs such as this are installed when software developers use the "bundling" method.

PC Support Center Adware

What is PC Support Center?

PC Support Center is a deceptive app identical to HotShoppy, CoolShopper, Myshopcoupon, and many others. By offering a feature to enhance system performance, PC Support Center attempts to give the impression of legitimacy. In fact, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA) and adware.

There are three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) stealth installation without users' consent; 2) display of intrusive ads, and; 3) tracking of web browsing activity.

Search.pensirot.com Redirect (Mac)

What is search.pensirot.com?

Identical to search.mogobiggy.com, search.pikatika.com, search.worthut.com, and many others, search.pensirot.com is a fake Internet search engine that falsely claims to enhance the browsing experience.

Judging on appearance alone, search.pensirot.com may seem legitimate and useful, however, this site is promoted using rogue download/installation set-ups (browser hijackers) that modify browser options without permission. In addition, search.pensirot.com stealthily records various information (mostly relating to users' Internet browsing activity).

GANDCRAB 5.0.4 Ransomware

What is GANDCRAB 5.0.4?

GANDCRAB 5.0.4 is another variant of high-risk ransomware called GandCrab designed to infiltrate systems and encrypt most stored files. As with most ransomware, a random appendix is added to the name of each compromised file. In this case, GANDCRAB 5.0.4 adds the ".rotxkry" string (e.g., "sample.jpg" is renamed to "sample.jpg.rotxkry").

Once encrypted, data instantly becomes unusable. Note that encryption is not the only feature of GANDCRAB 5.0.4 ransomware. This virus is also designed to change the desktop wallpaper and place a text file ("[random-string]-DECRYPT.txt") and a photo of Valery Sinyaev in every existing folder.

Additionalsearch.co.uk Redirect

What is additionalsearch.co.uk?

additionalsearch.co.uk is a fake search engine that supposedly enhances the browsing experience by generating improved results and providing the latest world news. Judging on appearance alone, this site barely differs from Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other legitimate search engines.

Therefore, many users believe that additionalsearch.co.uk is also legitimate, however, it is promoted using browser-hijacking downloaders/installers that modify  browser options without permission. Furthermore, this site continually gathers information relating to browsing activity.
