Search.dashingpool.com Redirect (Mac)

Also Known As: search.dashingpool.com browser hijacker
Type: Mac Virus
Damage level: Medium

What is search.dashingpool.com?

Search.dashingpool.com is presented as a legitimate Internet search website. Initially, this site may seem legitimate, however, it is promoted using deceptive software 'installers' designed to modify web browser settings without users' permission. Furthermore, search.dashingpool.com collects various information relating to browsing activity.

search.dashingpool.com browser hijacker on a Mac computer

During installation, the Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome default search engine, homepage, and new tab URL browser settings are stealthily assigned to search.dashingpool.com.

Users are unable to return browsers to their previous states, since installed 'helper objects' (apps/browser add-ons) automatically reassign these options back to search.dashingpool.com when attempts are made to change them.

Users are continually redirected to the search.dashingpool.com website without their consent, thus, significantly diminishing the browsing experience. Search.dashingpool.com gathers various information that might be personally identifiable including IP addresses, search queries, and pages viewed.

This information is shared with third parties who often misuse it to generate revenue. This type of data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Users who are continually redirected to search.dashingpool.com without their consent should uninstall all recently-installed suspicious applications.

Research shows that there are hundreds of dubious websites such as search.dashingpool.com including, for example, yourpackagesnow.com and search2000s.com. These sites also claim to be legitimate, however, they provide no real value for users. By offering 'valuable' functionality, they attempt to trick users to install.

The real purpose of these websites is to generate revenue for the developers - rather than providing any useful features, they cause unwanted browser redirects and gather personal data.

How did search.dashingpool.com install on my computer?

The developers employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' and conceal all modification details within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings (often skipped by many users). Thus, rushing the download and installation processes simply exposes your system to the risk of various infections (or in this case, allows installers to modify certain settings).

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

This situation can be prevented by taking two simple steps. Firstly, carefully observe each step within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings. Secondly, opt-out of all additionally-included programs and decline all offers to download or install them. The key to computer safety is caution and, therefore, you should never rush when downloading and installing software.
