OneSave Unwanted Application
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is OneSave?
OneSave is a deceptive application that supposedly protects users' privacy by allowing them to encrypt various data and store it on a 'cloud' - "With our online backup software, you get full control over your files, with outstanding accessibility to anything you decide to secure.
Lockdown and protect a lifetime of memories and all of your digital essentials in a location with the click of a button." This might seem legitimate and useful functionality, however, OneSave often infiltrates systems without users’ permission. In addition, it monitors browsing activity and records various user/system information. Therefore, OneSave is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
OneSave has similar behavior to hundreds of other potentially unwanted programs. After system infiltration, OneSave records various information relating to Internet browsing activity including IP addresses, websites visited, browser type - these are just some examples from a long list.
Many users believe that this data is insignificant, however, it might contain personally identifiable details. This gathered information is later shared with cooperating third party companies who will misuse it to generate revenue, thus, causing serious privacy issues or even identity theft. This behavior is unacceptable and you are strongly advised to uninstall OneSave PUP immediately.
This program has similar characteristics to Provider, Groover, Web Shield, and hundreds of other PUPs. All offer valuable features simply to trick users to install. In fact, none provide the functionality promised. Dubious applications such as OneSave are designed to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than providing value for users, potentially unwanted programs track Internet browsing activity, generate intrusive advertisements, and cause unwanted browser redirects.
How did OneSave install on my computer?
OneSave is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, it is also distributed as a 'bundle' with other software. Thus, many users install this application inadvertently. Research shows that developers usually conceal bundled software within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' download/installation settings.
Therefore, users who rush these processes and skip most/all steps, often install deceptive applications inadvertently. Developers' revenue is dependent on the number of distributed PUPs and, therefore, they rarely disclose these installations.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. For this reason, you should closely analyze each step of the software download and installation procedures. Bundled software is mostly bogus and, therefore, use the 'Custom/Advanced' settings, carefully observe the download/installation processes, and opt-out of all additionally-included software.
