What is Email Descontos?
Similar to Mintcast, the Email Descontos application supposedly allows developers to monetize their software. On initial inspection, Email Descontos may seem to be a legitimate app, however, this deceptive application generates intrusive online advertisements and continually tracks Internet browsing activity.
For these reasons, it is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). Note that it is likely to infiltrate systems without users’ permission.
This potentially unwanted program continually tracks Internet browsing activity by gathering various user/system information including IP addresses, geo-location, website URLs visited, search queries, and other similar information that might contain personal details.
The developers of Email Descontos share this gathered data with third parties who often misuse personal data to generate revenue. Thus, the presence of an information-tracking app such as Email Descontos on your system may lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.
In addition, Email Descontos delivers various intrusive online advertisements that conceal visited website content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience. These advertisements lead to malicious websites - clicking them risks further adware or malware infections. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to uninstall the Email Descontos PUP immediately.
Email Descontos shares many similarities with TheBrowser, FlashBeat, Web Shield, and other PUPs also falsely claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience. By giving fake promises to provide 'valuable' features, adware-type programs attempt to trick users to install.
After system infiltration, however, none provide the functionality promised - they generate intrusive online advertisements and track Internet browsing activity. The purpose of these PUPs is to generate revenue for the developers.
How did Email Descontos install on my computer?
Although Email Descontos has an official download website, many users install this app inadvertently. This is due to 'bundling' - a deceptive software marketing method used to distribute PUPs. Bundling is essentially stealth installation of third party software with regular software/apps.
Developers hide rogue software within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Unaware of this, users often rush the download and installation processes, skipping most steps, leading to inadvertent installation of rogue software.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of adware-type programs can be prevented by taking two simple steps. Firstly, never rush when downloading and installing software - closely analyze each step using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Secondly, opt-out of all additionally-included programs, since bundled software is often bogus.
