Ads by Revcontent

What is Revcontent?
Revcontent is an advertising network employed by various potentially unwanted programs (PUPs). This application claims to provide various 'valuable' features that supposedly improve the Internet browsing experience.
Although these apps may seem legitimate and useful, they are categorized as adware, since they infiltrate systems without users’ consent, track Internet browsing activity, and continually generate intrusive online advertisements.
Potentially unwanted programs often generate pop-up, coupon, banner, interstitial, and in-text ads. Most employ a 'virtual layer', which enables placement of third party graphical content on any site visited. Thus, none of the displayed advertisements originate from users' visited websites.
Third party ads often conceal underlying web content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience. In addition, some redirect to infectious websites - clicking them can result in high-risk adware or malware infections.
Another downside of potentially unwanted programs is information tracking - PUPs often record IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, geographic location, and other similar data. This data may seem insignificant, however, these information types might contain personally identifiable details that are shared with third party companies.
These personal details are misused by third parties to generate revenue. Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If you continually encounter Revcontent advertisements, uninstall all recently-installed applications immediately.
Be aware that adware-type applications have similar characteristics. All are designed to generate revenue for the developers. Therefore, false claims to enhance the Internet browsing experience are merely attempts to trick users to install.
After system infiltration, apps such as FlashBeat, TheBrowser, and iWebar provide no real value for users. They generate intrusive online advertisements and track users' Internet browsing activity.
How did Revcontent install on my computer?
Applications that deliver Revcontent advertisements are usually proliferated using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party programs with regular software/apps. Research shows that many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software.
For this reason, developers conceal bogus software within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' download/installation settings. Users who skip this section often install dubious applications inadvertently, thereby exposing their systems to risk of further infection and compromising their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of potentially unwanted programs can be prevented by taking two simple steps. Firstly, never rush when downloading and installing software - closely analyze each step using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Secondly, bear in mind that bundled software is often classed as malicious and, therefore, you should never accept any offers to download or install additional apps.
