VuuPC Unwanted Application
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is VuuPC?
VuuPC is presented as an application allowing users to remotely control their computers. This program is legitimate, however, it is often distributed as a 'bundle' and is, thus, classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
Note that potentially unwanted programs often threaten users' privacy and Internet browsing safety. Most generate intrusive online advertisements (for example, pop-up, banner, interstitial, transitional, full-page, search, etc.) that not only conceal underlying content, but also redirect to malicious websites.
Clicking them risks various adware or malware infections. In addition, many PUPs track Internet browsing activity and gather various browsing-related information that might contain personally identifiable details. Furthermore, the collected information is shared with cooperating third party companies who commonly misuse personal data to generate revenue.
This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. VuuPC is legitimate and poses no threat to users, however, it often infiltrates systems without permission. By running in the background, VuuPC diminishes computer performance. If you believe VuuPC has been installed without your permission, you should eliminate this app immediately.
VuuPC is similar to Spyware Clear, PC Fix Speed, PC Mechanic, and many other potentially unwanted programs that infiltrate systems without permission. Be aware that PUP often do not provide the functionality promised. Most are designed to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than delivering any real value for users, these PUPs cause unwanted browser redirects, track Internet browsing activity, and cause unwanted browser redirects.
How did VuuPC install on my computer?
Potentially unwanted programs are often distributed as 'bundles' with regular software. Developers hide rogue software within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Therefore, users who rush the download and installation processes often install potentially unwanted programs inadvertently.
Developers are concerned only with the amount of revenue generated and, thus, there is no reason for them to disclose installation of PUPs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent installation of bogus applications, be attentive when downloading and installing software. Closely observe each step using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Furthermore, all additionally-included apps should be cancelled, since there is a high probability that they will be malicious.
