What is VAFMusic?
VAFMusic claims to be a legitimate music player that supposedly allows users to listen to music free of charge - "VAFMusic is an outstanding and modern music player. With VAFMusic you will be able to download over 10,000 song tracks and you will also have a possibility to listen all kinds of music for free!"
Many users believe VAFMusic to be legitimate and useful software, however, this app is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). There are three main reasons for these negative associations: stealth installation without users' consent, tracking of Internet browsing activity, and display of intrusive online advertisements.
VAFMusic continually monitors Internet browsing activity and gathers various information such as IP addresses, type of operating system and web browser, etc. The main issue with information tracking is that some data can include personally identifiable details.
Note that this data is shared with third party companies and there is a high probability that private details will be misused to generate revenue, Thus, having VAFMusic installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.
Furthermore, VAFMusic employs a 'virtual layer' to generate various intrusive online ads (for example, pop-up, banner, shopping offers, and video messages). Many users are unaware that these ads do not originate from their visited websites. This diminishes the Internet browsing experience, since they conceal underlying web content.
In addition, some ads redirect to malicious sites containing infectious content - clicking them can lead to high-risk adware or malware infections. We strongly recommend that you uninstall this application immediately.
Adware-type applications are in general very similar. All have identical behavior - they offer useful features, and yet, provide no real value for users. Applications such as SensePlus, CoupSeek, DustApps, and VAFMusic are created simply to generate revenue for the developers.
For this reason, these apps only generate intrusive online advertisements and collect personally identifiable details - they do not enable the functionality promised.
How did VAFMusic install on my computer?
This app is mainly distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party applications with the chosen software/apps.
Most users are unaware that potentially unwanted programs are often hidden within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Users often rush the download and installation processes and skip most steps - this results in inadvertent installation of rogue applications and exposes their systems to risk of further infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Adware-type applications are usually concealed, and therefore, you should not rush the download or installation processes. Select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings and analyze each step. Research shows that most bundled applications are rogue, and for this reason, you should never accept offers to download or install additional programs.
