Ads by Weatherping

What is Weatherping?
Weatherping is described as a legitimate application providing the latest weather forecasts and various features to save time and money when shopping online (display of coupons and special deals/discounts available on shopping websites, comparison shopping functions, etc.)
These fake promises are used by developers of Weatherping to give the impression of legitimate software, however, Weatherping is an adware-type application that generates ads, tracks Internet browsing activity, and infiltrates systems without users' permission.
Weatherping tracks information that, according to the developers, is not personally identifiable. This statement is false, since Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, geo-location, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, cookies, and other similar data might clearly contain personally identifiable details.
Developers later share this data with third party companies who can misuse it to generate revenue. Thus, the presence of Weatherping adware on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Furthermore, Weatherping generates various intrusive online advertisements.
To achieve this, developers employ a 'virtual layer', which enables placement of third party content on any visited websites. Initially, this content may appear to comprise regular ads, however, they do not originate from the visited websites and conceal underlying web content.
This significantly diminishes the Internet browsing experience. In addition, some redirect to infectious sites and clicking them can lead to high-risk adware or malware infections. If you are concerned with your privacy and Internet browsing safety, uninstall Weatherping immediately.
Weatherping Privacy Policy towards data sharing:
We may from time to time share with advertisers non-personally identifiable information for them to improve the performance of their products.
Weatherping is similar to other adware-type applications such as Temperature Scout, WeatherBug, and TruNavi. All offer various useful features, however, none provide users with any real value.
Adware-type applications are designed solely to generate revenue for the developers - rather than providing the functionality promised, Weatherping (and other similar applications) deliver intrusive online advertisements and collect personally identifiable information.
How did Weatherping install on my computer?
Although Weatherping is free for anyone to download on its official website, most users install this application inadvertently with their chosen (mostly free) software/apps.
Bundled applications are commonly hidden within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. By skipping this section, users often install potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) such as Weatherping unwillingly. In doing so, they expose their systems to risk of infection and threaten their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
You can avoid this situation by closely analyzing the download/installation processes and declining all offers to install additional programs. Choose the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any additionally-included applications (likely to be bogus) and allow you to opt-out. The key to computer safety is caution - never rush when downloading and installing software.
