What is SmartPurple?
SmartPurple is identical to Kikblaster, FutureGames, KeyStream, and several other apps. According to the developers, SmartPurple improves the Internet browsing experience by allowing uses to render various graphical content (video, text, etc.) Some users may believe that SmartPurple is a legitimate and useful app, however, it is classed as adware and potentially unwanted program (PUP).
After successfully infiltrating web browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox), SmartPurple monitors users' Internet browsing activity and delivers intrusive online advertisements.
SmartPurple tracks users' Internet browsing activity and collects Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine geographic location), search queries entered into search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.), websites visited, pages viewed, and other similar data.
This information might seem insignificant, however, it can include personally identifiable details that the developers of SmartPurple later share with third party companies who can misuse it to generate revenue. Data sharing can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.
Furthermore, SmartPurple continually generates intrusive online advertisements that do not originate from the visited websites. All are displayed using a 'virtual layer', which enables placement of third party graphical content on any visited sites. These ads conceal underlying web content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
Some redirect to bogus sites, and thus, clicking them is risky and may cause high-risk adware or malware infections. For these reasons, we strongly recommend that you uninstall SmartPurple adware immediately.
SmartPurple shares many similarities with PicZoomer, HaggleDazzle, FantasticDiscounts, and hundreds of other adware-type applications. All adware claims to enhance the browsing experience, and yet, none delivers any real value. These false claims are simply attempts to trick users to install.
The sole purpose of adware-type apps is to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than providing the functionality promised, adware-type applications generate intrusive advertisements and collect personally identifiable information.
How did SmartPurple install on my computer?
As with other regular adware, SmartPurple is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party applications with regular software/apps.
Aware that many users do not pay enough attention during the download and installation processes, developers hide PUPs within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Thus, by skipping this section, users install rogue applications such as SmartPurple inadvertently.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two main steps you should take to prevent installation of rogue adware-type apps. Firstly, all software should be downloaded and installed with the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings - carefully follow each step of these processes. Secondly, download your chosen software only - never accept offers to install additional programs.
