Club-Save Ads
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Club-Save?
According to the developers, Club-Save is a legitimate browser plug-in created to save time and money while shopping online - "ONLINE SHOPPING is now made easier and more manageable with the new Club-Save browser add-on. Now you can choose the best deal that suits your budget and needs in less time."
This functionality may initially seem useful, however, the Club-Save extension is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware. One of the reasons for these negative associations is stealth infiltration without users' consent. Furthermore, Club-Save tracks Internet browser activity and delivers intrusive advertisements.
Club-Save continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity and gathers various software/hardware information that might be personally identifiable including, for example, geolocation, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, Internet service provider (ISP), operating system type, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, etc.
Be aware that after gathering this information, developers share it with third party companies who can misuse it to generate revenue. This behavior may lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Club-Save generates a variety of intrusive online advertisements using a virtual layer to display coupon, comparison shopping, pop-up, and other ads.
None originate from the visited websites and conceal underlying web content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
In addition, some might redirect to malicious sites containing infectious content. There is a high probability that clicking these ads will result in a high-risk adware or malware infections. For the above reasons, you should uninstall Club-Save adware immediately.
Club-Save is regular adware sharing many similarities with other applications such as FindsPro, CandyBox, and Oh My Coupons.
These offer the same features, however, no adware-type apps provide the functionality promised. Their purpose is to generate revenue for the developers, who falsely claim to improve the browsing experience (to trick users to install). Once infiltrated, apps such as Club-Save simply generate advertisements and gather personally identifiable information.
How did Club-Save install on my computer?
This bogus app is often distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party apps with regular software/apps), and thus, Club-Save usually infiltrates systems without users' permission. Bundling is effective, since many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software.
By rushing these processes, and skipping most/all steps, they inadvertently install hidden rogue apps such as Club-Save. Reckless download and installation of software often leads to unwanted installations.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
This situation can be prevented by taking a number of simple steps. Firstly, never rush when downloading and installing software - select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options and closely analyze each step. Furthermore, opt-out of all third party programs listed for download and/or installation, otherwise you will expose your system to risk of infection.
