PackageTracking Toolbar

What is PackageTracking?
PackageTracking is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) claiming to allow users to track various shipments, deliveries, etc.
Initially, PackageTracking may seem to be a legitimate and useful app, however, it is categorized as a browser hijacker. After stealthily infiltrating Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, PackageTracking alters browser settings and tracks Internet browsing activity.
PackageTracking modifies the homepage, new tab URL and default search engine settings by assigning them to the ask.com website without users' consent. In addition, it employs several browser plug-ins/applications designed to prevent users from reverting these changes.
These unwanted browser redirects significantly diminish the Internet browsing experience. Furthermore, this PUP tracks Internet browsing activity and collects various software and hardware information, some of which may be personally identifiable. This collected data is later shared with third parties who can misuse it to generate revenue.
For this reason, we strongly recommend that you uninstall this browser hijacker, since the presence of PackageTracking on your system can lead to serious privacy issues.
The developers of PackageTracking has released tens of other PUPs almost identical to this browser hijacker. All toolbars developed by Mindspark Interactive Network (including Dezipper, MergeDocsOnline, ListingsPortal, and ProductivityBoss) claim to enhance the Internet browsing experience.
These fake promises are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy. None of these toolbars provide the features promised. The purpose of PackageTracking, and other similar PUPs, is to generate revenue for the developers - they deliver no real value for the user.
How did PackageTracking install on my computer?
Although PackageTracking has an official download website, it usually infiltrates systems during download or installation of other programs. This deceptive software distribution is called 'bundling'. Some users are unaware that developers of rogue applications intentionally conceal them within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings.
By rushing the download and installation processes and skipping most/all steps, users inadvertently install rogue applications, thereby exposing their systems to risk of infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Do not rush the download or installation processes. Use the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options when downloading/installing software - this will reveal any hidden PUPs listed for installation and enable you to opt-out.
