Super Browser Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Super Browser?
Super Browser is a deceptive, Chromium-based Internet browser claiming to provide users with the best Internet browsing experience.
While some users may believe that this application is legitimate, it is classed as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). After stealthily infiltrating the system without users' consent, Super Browser displays intrusive online advertisements and collects various user/system information.
Following infiltration, Super Browser configures itself as the default Internet browser. In addition, it installs a number of browser extensions on all other installed Internet browsers. This application displays various intrusive online ads such as pop-up, banner, coupon, etc.
On initial inspection, these displayed ads may seem harmless, however, some might redirect to bogus sites. Thus, clicking them can result in further computer infections. In addition, this deceptive app causes redirects to the go.mail.ru website (note: this site is legitimate and virus-free).
Super Browser collects various Internet browsing-related information including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, websites visited, search queries, pages viewed, etc.
Some of this gathered information may contain personally identifiable details, and therefore, having Super Browser installed on your system cam lead to various privacy issues. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to uninstall this application immediately.
This PUP is similar to many other dubious Internet browsers also presented as legitimate including Fusion Browser, BeagleBrowser, and Tortuga.
These Chromium-based browsers claim to enable useful features simply to trick users to install. In fact, neither Super Browser, nor any other of the aforementioned apps, provide the functionality promised - they are designed to generate revenue by displaying ads and collecting user/system data. They provide no real value for the user.
How did Super Browser install on my computer?
Super Browser is likely to be distributed as a 'bundle' with other (usually free) software. Research shows that many users do not express enough caution during the download and installation procedures, and for this reason, developers deliberately conceal installation of rogue applications within these processes.
Many users rush these stages, skipping the 'Custom/Advanced' settings, thereby exposing their systems to risk of infection and inadvertently installing applications such as Super Browser.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Pay close attention during the download and installation processes. Follow each step when downloading and installing software and decline all offers to download/install additional apps. In addition, use the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any concealed third party software listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
