Cool Popular Games Toolbar

What is Cool Popular Games?
According to the developers (Mindspark Interactive Network), Cool Popular Games is a legitimate browser toolbar providing a variety of Flash games - "Cool Popular Games the best toolbar for gaming. Play FREE popular arcade, classic, puzzle, board games & more. Solve challenging puzzles & mystery games. Play card games, shooting games, & more with others for FREE!"
These claims are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimate software, since Cool Popular Games is categorized as a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). The main reason for these negative associations is the deceptive behavior exhibited by Cool Popular Games.
This toolbar infiltrates systems without users' permission, stealthily modifies Internet browser settings, and tracks Internet browsing activity.
Cool Popular Games assigns the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox homepage, new tab URL, and default search engine browser settings to the ask.com website.
In addition, this app installs a number of browser toolbars and applications that prevent users from reverting these changes (which are made without users' permission, thereby causing unwanted browser redirects). The behavior of Cool Popular Games toolbar significantly diminishes the Internet browsing experience.
In addition, this application may track various information containing personally identifiable details. Be aware that Mindspark Interactive Network collaborates with several third party companies with whom the gathered information may be shared and misused to generate revenue.
This can lead to privacy issues, and therefore, you are advised to uninstall Cool Popular Games toolbar immediately.
Mindspark Interactive Network has released many deceptive browser toolbars identical to Cool Popular Games including DailyRecipeGuide, WebmailWorld, AutoPCBackup, and ConvertAnyFile. These plug-ins claim to provide different features, whereas in fact they have identical behavior.
After stealth infiltration, they monitor Internet browsing activity and assign the aforementioned browsers' settings to ask.com, thereby causing unwanted browser redirects. Cool Popular Games and other toolbars are designed to generate revenue for the developers - they provide no real value for the user.
How did Cool Popular Games install on my computer?
Although Cool Popular Games has an official download website, it is often distributed as a bundle with other (mostly free) software. Research shows that users generally do not pay enough attention when downloading and installing software, thus making bundling popular and effective.
Some users do not express enough caution during the download and installation processes - they are unaware that potentially unwanted programs such as Cool Popular Games are concealed within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. By skipping this section, they inadvertently install bogus apps.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Never rush the download and installation processes. Closely analyze each step of the software download procedure (all offers to download additional applications should be declined). Furthermore, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options - this will reveal any bundled software listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
