What is SuperAdRemove?
SuperAdRemove is a bogus application claiming to immediately close advertisements displayed on visited websites - "How long does it take for you to close pop-ups in a particular website before you can freely surf? In some websites, it only takes a few seconds. In some others, it could take a long while. There are even pop-ups that come back every now and then. If you hate this, download SuperAdRemove. After installing the software, none of these ads will even bother you."
These claims are merely attempts to give the impression of a legitimate and useful application. In fact, SuperAdRemove is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware. Firstly, this application often installs on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Secondly, following system infiltration, SuperAdRemove displays intrusive online ads (rather than closing existing ones as promised) and tracks users' Internet browsing activity.
As with other adware, SuperAdRemove displays intrusive online advertisements such as banners, pop-ups, interstitial, and other similar ads. This app employs a virtual layer that allows placement of various graphical content on any visited website. The displayed content (ads) does not originate from the visited website.
In addition, some advertisements are occasionally opened in new browser tabs or windows, thereby increasing the chance of accidental user clicks.
Although ads displayed by applications such as SuperAdRemove lead to various commercial sites (for example, online stores) or software websites, there is also a possibility that users will be redirected to rogue sites, thereby resulting in high-risk computer infections.
Research shows that SuperAdRemove also monitors Internet browsing activity and collects various user information. Information collected by adware-type apps often includes personally identifiable details (such as bank or PayPal account details), which is later shared with third parties and can be misused.
This situation might cause serious privacy issues or even identity theft. SuperAdRemove is a potential threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety - it should be uninstalled immediately.
SuperAdRemove Privacy Policy regarding data sharing:
NOTE:-The plugin and other services collect and stores information concerning the web pages you visit and your activity on those pages, such as impressions, clicks and search terms. In some cases, information collected by the plugin and other services may be personally identifiable, and in some cases information (including information from or about pages of social media websites you visit) may be used or shared with third parties for purposes of displaying targeted advertisements promotional and marketing material to you.
SuperAdRemove is typical adware, and thus, similar to many other bogus apps. Adware is designed to offer a variety of features in attempts to trick users to install. And yet, these apps provide no significant value. GetPrivate, PriceChomper, Sponsored Ads, and Sail Deals are just some examples of adware-type apps with similar behvior to SuperAdRemove.
They are developed to display intrusive online advertisements using the 'Pay Per Click' (PPC) advertising model and by collecting personally identifiable information. The purpose of adware is to generate revenue for developers by monetizing advertisements and selling information to third parties.
How did SuperAdRemove install on my computer?
Although SuperAdRemove has an official website, it is also distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party apps together with regular software), and thus, usually installs inadvertently without users' consent.
Bundling is very effective, since many users do not pay enough attention when downloading/installing software - rogue applications are often hidden within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings (often skipped by users), and consequently, adware such as SuperAdRemove is installed without users' knowledge.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Where possible, select the direct download link when downloading from a freeware download website. Pay close attention if using a download client - analyze each step of the download procedure and opt-out any third party software included.
Download your chosen software from the official website only. Installation of downloaded software should be performed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any third party software listed for installation and allow you to cancel it.
