Ads by MVPlayer

What is MVPlayer?
MVPlayer (developed by Fresh Applications) may seem to be a legitimate and useful media player supporting many video and audio formats, however, this application is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
MVPlayer is mostly distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling', and therefore, users often inadvertently install this bogus app. Bundling is a way to stealthily install additional apps together with regular software, and therefore, MVPlayer is often distributed with free software downloadable on freeware download websites.
After infiltration on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox), MVPlayer delivers intrusive online advertisements including banners, pop-ups, pop-unders, interstitial, and in-text ads. Be aware that ads generated by this app will potentially redirect to untrusted websites that may contain infectious content, thereby causing high-risk computer infections.
Additionally, MVPlayer is developed to continually monitor users' Internet browsing activity and gather various software and hardware information. The types of collected data include visited websites, activity on those sites, browsing history, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine users' geo-locations), etc.
Note that this collected information may contain personally identifiable details, and therefore, having this application installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.
MVPlayer is similar to hundreds of other regular adware-type applications such as PriceLess, Razor Web, and Visadd - these promise to enable useful functions, however, as with MVPlayer, none provide any real value - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements and sharing collected data with third parties.
MVPlayer is often distributed on freeware download websites such as soft32.com, softonic.com, downloads.com, etc. These sites monetize their traffic and free services via small programs called 'download managers', which offer installation of additional apps together with the chosen software.
Although these apps are presented as 'legitimate and virus-free', most are categorized as adware or malware. This type of computer infection can be avoided by closely analysing each step of the free software download procedure and clicking 'Decline' if any offers to install third party applications appear.
Furthermore, programs downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any hidden applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them. If you have installed MVPlayer, the following guide will help you to remove this PUP from your system.
