What is TopArcadeHits?
TopArcadeHits supposedly allows users to play various arcade games, however, attempts to play games from the 'Premium' section lead to a pop-up for installation set-up of this rogue application. Some users may feel this application is legitimate and useful, however, TopArcadeHits is classed as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
This adware employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party applications together with the chosen software to install TopArcadeHits on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Following infiltration on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, TopArcadeHits displays intrusive online advertisements including banners, pop-ups, coupons, etc. Clicking advertisements generated by this rogue application may cause high-risk adware or malware infections, since they are likely to redirect to dubious websites containing infectious content.
Another significant downside of this PUP is information tracking. TopArcadeHits tracks various types of information such as IP addresses, Internet services providers, geographic locations, etc. These may contain personally identifiable details, and therefore, the presence of Internet browsing-tracking applications can lead to serious privacy issues.
TopArcadeHits is a regular adware application and similar or identical to other PUPs. There are several applications including ArcadeTwist, GreatArcadeHits, and ArcadeGiant, all of which claim to enable identical feature (access to hundreds of arcade games).
Despite these claims, TopArcadeHits and the aforementioned apps, are developed to generate revenue by displaying ads and sharing collected information with third parties. This PUP provides no significant value and you are strongly advised to uninstall TopArcadeHits adware from your system immediately.
The developers (EpicPlay) mostly distribute TopArcadeHits via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as soft32.com, softonic.com, and downloads.com. According to these sites, download clients make the download process easier, however, the purpose of these apps is to include third party apps with the chosen software.
These promoted applications are described as 'genuine and virus-free', and yet, most are categorized as adware or malware. To avoid this type of computer infection, closely analyse the software download process and opt-out of any additional applications.
Furthermore, installation of downloaded software should be performed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any concealed apps listed for installation and allow you to decline them. If you have installed TopArcadeHits, the following guide will help you to uninstall this bogus software from your system.
