What is PriceFab?
Some users may find the PriceFab extension (developed by a company of the same name) legitimate and useful, since it claims to save time and money when shopping online by displaying special deals/discounts. Despite these claims, PriceFab is in fact categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
This bogus application installs on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party applications together with the chosen software). After system infiltration, PriceFab generates various intrusive online advertisements and gathers Internet browsing-related data.
Banners, coupons, and other similar applications displayed by this rogue application, frequently redirect to dubious websites, thereby exposing your computer to risk of infection. This collected information (which might be personally identifiable) includes IP addresses, websites visited, search queries, pages viewed, browser types, etc.
and is shared with third parties. Therefore, the presence of this PUP on your system may cause serious privacy issues or even identity theft. There are hundreds of applications that offer similar features to PriceFab. For example, PriceMinus, ShoppinGate, and Shop Smart.
Most adware-type programs are useless to the user. PriceFab, and other similar apps, are simply designed to generate revenue by the display of advertisements and sharing collected data with third parties. Therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall PriceFab from your system immediately.
PriceFab and other adware-type apps usually install via small 'download programs' (also called 'download tools', 'installers', 'download managers', 'download clients', etc.) employed by freeware download websites including soft32.com and downloads.com.
Download programs are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of additional programs together with the chosen software. The developers make assurances that their products are 'legitimate and virus-free', however, most third party applications are categorized as adware or malware.
To avoid computer infections, be attentive when downloading free software and ensure that no extra applications are included. In addition, use the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' options when installing downloaded software - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed PriceFab, the following guide will help you to eliminate this rogue app from your system.
