Yousearch.me Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is yousearch.me?
Redirects to the yousearch.me website are caused by an application called FVD Speed Dial, which is often installed inadvertently during download of regular free software.
FVD Special Dial is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party applications together with the chosen software), and therefore, this application is usually bundled together with free software downloadable on freeware download websites.
After FLV Speed Dial successfully installs, it assigns the Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox) default search engine, homepages, and new tab URL settings to yousearch.me. This causes redirection to yousearch.me without the user's consent.
The bundling method is mostly used to distribute rogue adware and browser hijacking applications. Popular freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com monetize their traffic and free services via small programs called 'download clients', which are developed to bundle third party apps together with the chosen free software.
The developers make assurances that the included applications are 'legitimate and virus-free', however, most third party apps of this type are considered to be adware or malware.
Most rogue apps collect Internet browsing-related information and display intrusive online ads, and therefore, having any of them installed on your system might cause further computer infections or either serious privacy issues.
Although yousearch.me is not technically a virus or malware, it is categorized as a browser hijacking app, and therefore, you are advised to uninstall this app from your system immediately.
Many browser hijacking apps have similar or identical behavior: they cause unwanted browser redirects, rather than providing any of the features promised.
For example, golliver.com, fbdownloader.com, and goodforsearch.info have similar behavior to yousearch.me - they claim to enable useful functionality and improve the Internet browsing experience, however, none provide any real value. Their purpose is to generate revenue by causing redirects to various websites to increase traffic.
Installation of these apps can be avoided by closely analysing each step during download and installation of free software and unchecking all additional programs included.
In addition, if you are installing downloaded software, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If your browser continually redirects you to the yousearch.me website without your consent, the removal guide below will help you to eliminate this problem from your system.
