What is Offers4U?
Offers4U is an advertising network used by various potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that are distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party applications together with the chosen software).
Most of these applications claim to enable various useful features, and although some users may find these applications legitimate and useful, they are categorized as adware and PUPs.
After infiltration on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox), these PUPs generate coupon-type advertisements that are often marked as 'brought by Offers4U' or 'brought by Crazy Score'.
Be aware that clicking these advertisements can result in further computer infections, since these ads are likely to redirect to dubious websites containing infectious content.
Furthermore, most adware continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity and gathers various software and hardware information that may be personally identifiable. For example: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine users' geolocations), search queries entered into search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.), URLs visited, pages viewed, and so on.
Be aware that information tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Most adware applications provide no real value for the user - they are developed to display ads and share collected data with third parties to generate revenue.
At time of research, most adware was distributed using small 'download programs' (also called 'installers', 'download managers', 'download clients', etc.) on freeware download websites such as, download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, and many others.
Download programs are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of third party applications together with the chosen software. These promoted applications are described as 'virus-free', however, careless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
This situation can be avoided by closely analysing each step of the free software download procedure and ensuring that no extra applications are included.
In addition, software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any bundled apps listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you observe intrusive online advertisements, follow the instructions below to eliminate this problem from your system.
