What is Games Bot?
Games Bot is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. Games Bot claims to be a legitimate application, which allows download of addictive Shockwave games, however, it is classed as potentially unwanted program.
After successful installation, this PUP diminishes computer performance by abusing CPU function, continually accessing information on the hard drive, and slowing Internet connectivity. This application is detected as adware/potentially unwanted application by 21 antivirus vendors.
Be aware that most of today's popular freeware download websites (including download.com, softonic.com, soft32.com, etc.) monetize their free services and traffic via small programs called 'download managers' that offer installation of additional applications.
These applications are stated to be '100% legitimate and virus-free', however, reckless download and installation of freeware frequently leads to adware or malware infections. After successful infiltration of potentially unwanted programs, users' Internet browsing activity is tracked and personally identifiable details can be recorded.
In addition, users might experience intrusive online ads and unwanted browser redirects. This behavior can cause serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Games Bot is categorized as potentially unwanted application, and therefore, you are strongly advised to eliminate it from your system.
There are many applications similar to Games Bot. For example: Gameo, GreatArcadeHits, and Roll Around. These applications claim to provide useful features, however, they simply generate unwanted ads and collect personal data.
To prevent installation of Games Bot, or other similar potentially unwanted programs, inspect each step when downloading free software and uncheck all additionally-included apps.
Furthermore, downloaded software should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have unwillingly installed Games Bot, read the removal guide provided to eliminate this potentially unwanted program (PUP) from your system.
