What is SmartOfferDisplay?
Created by LOLLIPOP NETWORK, S.L., the SmartOfferDisplay program claims to enhance the Internet browsing experience by displaying notifications of available deals, enabling product and price comparisons, etc.
This plug-in is not related to malware or virus infections, however, some Internet users report that it was installed without their consent and produced unwanted ads when browsing with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.
Unwilling installation of the SmartOfferDisplay application can be caused by deceptive free software 'download clients' offering installation of free browser plug-ins together with the chosen freeware.
Some freeware download clients under investigation employ dubious tactics to trick users into installing various adware, such as hiding the 'decline' button (which can otherwise be used to opt-out of installation of promoted plug-ins). Another trick prevents users from downloading free software unless they accept installation of promoted browser extensions.
In most cases, the safest free software download sources are directly from developers' websites. SmartOfferDisplay is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP), since it is promoted using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'.
This add-on is also known to diminish browser performance, and therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall this adware from your computer.
SmartOfferDisplay is similar to other potentially unwanted applications that install together with free software and cause unwanted online advertisements. Examples include cheapster, interstat, luckytab, and guarded web among many others.
To avoid installation of adware such as this, be attentive when downloading free software since, today, most freeware download websites employ download clients that advertise potentially unwanted applications. Thus, reckless free software installation can result in redirects, unwanted ads, and privacy issues.
If your download is managed by a download client, decline offers to install any additional browser add-ons.
If you feel that SmartOfferDisplay was installed on your computer without your consent (and you see 'Ads by SmartOfferDisplay', 'Powered by SmartOfferDisplay', or similar ads when browsing the Internet), use the following removal guide provided to eliminate SmartOfferDisplay.
