What is Friday Frenzy?
Friday Frenzy is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that claims to save time and money by displaying special deals/discounts available on shopping websites and by enabling coupons and comparison shopping. While this functionality may seem legitimate, be aware that Friday Frenzy is categorized as adware.
These associations are made due to a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) employed by Friday Frenzy to install on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, Friday Frenzy generates intrusive online ads such as banner, pop-up, in-text, and coupon ads. It is highly probable that clicking advertisements generated by this rogue application will cause high-risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since this potentially unwanted program records various software and hardware information that may be personally identifiable. For example: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine geographic locations), URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered, and other similar details.
This information tracking may result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Friday Frenzy is similar to other rogue applications that employ bundling as an installation method. Some examples are ShoppingOn, SaveZ, and Shopping Fever among many others.
Neither Friday Frenzy, nor any of these other applications, provide any significant value for the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads and sharing collected data with third parties. Therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall Friday Frenzy from your Internet browsers.
Close examination of Friday Frenzy reveals that it is mostly distributed via small download programs (called 'installers', 'download managers', 'download clients', etc.) used by freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com among many others.
Download programs are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of advertised (according to the developers, '100% legitimate and virus-free') browser add-ons together with the chosen software. Thus, careless download and installation of freeware risks system infection with adware or malware.
To prevent installation of Friday Frenzy, or other similar adware, be attentive during download of free software and never accept installation of any additional programs offered.
Furthermore, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than "Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation.
If your computer is infected with Friday Frenzy, and you observe intrusive online ads while surfing the Internet, follow the removal guide provided to uninstall this potentially unwanted program from your internet browsers.
