Dynamo Combo Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Dynamo Combo?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, Dynamo Combo is a rogue browser plug-in claiming to improve the Internet browsing experience by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and other similar functions. On initial inspection, this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, be aware that Dynamo Combo is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
Dynamo Combo employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to install on Internet browsers without users' permission during installation of other software.
Once infiltration on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome is successful, Dynamo Combo generates intrusive online ads and tracks users' Internet browsing activity and interaction with third parties.
Advertisements generated by Dynamo Combo include (but are not limited to) search, pop-up, transitional, search, interstitial, and full-page ads. There is a high probability that clicking these advertisements will cause high-risk adware or malware infections.
Additionally, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since this rogue application records various software and hardware information such as IP addresses (to determine users' geographic locations), search queries entered into search engines, website URLs visited, pages viewed, unique identifier numbers, and other similar data that may be personally identifiable.
This information tracking may result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft, and for these reasons, you are strongly advised to eliminate Dynamo Combo from your Internet browsers.
SuperWeb LLC has released over one hundred rogue applications, which are identical to Dynamo Combo. For example, Browser Good, Cyti Web, and Reverse Page. None of these applications (including Dynamo Combo) provide any significant value for the user.
This company intentionally releases identical browser extensions under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus suites. The purpose of these applications is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements and sharing collected information with third parties.
Research shows that most adware is distributed via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, or soft32.com.
Download managers are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of advertised (according to the developers, '100% legitimate and virus-free') browser extensions together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware risks computer infection with adware or malware.
This situation can be avoided by closely inspecting each step of the free software download procedure and never accepting installation of any additional programs offered. Furthermore, if you are installing downloaded software, choose the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them.
If you have installed Dynamo Combo, and you observe intrusive online ads while surfing the Internet, follow the removal instructions provided to uninstall this adware from your system.
