Reverse Page Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Reverse Page?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, Reverse Page is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and other similar features. On initial inspection, this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, be aware that Reverse Page is categorized as adware.
These associations are made due to a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional applications together with the chosen software) employed by the developers of Reverse Page to install on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, Reverse Page generates intrusive online ads and tracks users' Internet browsing activity.
Advertisements delivered by this rogue browser extension include banner, interstitial, transitional, pop-up, search, and full-page ads. There is a high probability that clicking these advertisements will lead to further computer infections.
Furthermore, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since this potentially unwanted program collects various software and hardware information that may be personally identifiable.
For example: unique identifier numbers, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine users' geographic locations), website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered into search engines, and other similar details. This personal information tracking may lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft.
SuperWeb LLC has released over one hundred rogue applications identical to Reverse Page. SideTerms, Green-Wall, Neon Great, and Faster Light are just some examples among many others.
Neither Reverse Page, nor any of these other browser plug-ins, provide any significant value for the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads and sharing collected data with third parties. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to eliminate Reverse Page from your system.
Research shows that most adware is distributed via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com among many others.
Download clients are used by these websites as free services and traffic monetization tools, since they offer installation of promoted (according to the developers, '100% legitimate and virus-free') browser plug-ins together with the chosen free software.
Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often leads to adware or malware infections. To avoid installation of Reverse Page, or other similar adware, be attentive when downloading free software and never accept installation of any additional programs offered.
Furthermore, if you are installing downloaded software, select the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Typical' or 'Quick' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them.
If you have installed Reverse Page, and you observe 'Ads by Reverse Page', 'Powered by Reverse Page', and 'Reverse Page Deals' advertisements while surfing the Internet, follow the removal guide provided to uninstall this adware from your Internet browsers.
