What is digi docket?
Created by SuperWeb LLC, digi docket is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that claims to improve the Internet browsing experience by enabling comparison shopping, coupons, and other features. While this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that digi docket is categorized as adware.
The developers of this rogue application employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) to install digi docket on Internet browsers without users' consent.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, digi docket delivers various intrusive online advertisements such as banner, interstitial, search, transitional, pop-up, and full-page ads. There is a high probability that clicking advertisements generated by digi docket will cause high-risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, this potentially unwanted application continually tracks users' Internet browsing activity by collecting various software and hardware information including IP addresses (to determine geographic locations), website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered into search engines, unique identifier numbers, and other similar data that is likely to be personally identifiable.
This behavior may lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. The developers of this rogue application have released several hundred PUPs that are identical to digi docket. Examples include Deja Data, Boxed Books, and Score Escape among many others.
These applications (including digi docket) are useless to the user - SuperWeb LLC releases identical browser plug-ins under different names with the intention of avoiding detection by legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware suites.
The purpose of these plug-ins is to generate revenue by delivering intrusive online ads and sharing collected information with third parties, and therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall digi docket from your Internet browsers.
Close examination of digi docket reveals that it is mostly distributed via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com.
Download clients are used by these websites as free services and traffic monetization tools, since they offer installation of advertised (according to the developers, '100% legitimate') browser extensions together with the chosen free software. Thus, careless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
To prevent installation of digi docket, or other similar PUPs, be attentive when downloading free software and never accept installation of any additional programs offered.
Furthermore, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them.
If you have installed digi docket, and you see intrusive online ads while surfing the Internet, follow the instructions below to uninstall this adware from your Internet browsers.
