What is Mobius Radio?
Created by Crazy Idea Development, Mobius Radio is a rogue application claiming to provide a feature enabling users to listen to any song instantly. On initial inspection, this may seem a useful and legitimate browser add-on, however, be aware that Mobius Radio is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) or adware.
These associations are made due to a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' employed by Mobius Radio to install on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Bundling allows developers to stealthily distribute their applications together with other software, and therefore, most users inadvertently install Mobius Radio during download of free software from freeware download websites.
After successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, Mobius Radio generates various intrusive online advertisements including (but not limited to) interstitial, banner, in-text, and pop-up/under ads. It is highly probable that clicking on advertisements delivered by Mobius Radio will cause high-risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since this rogue application records various software and hardware information that is likely to be personally identifiable.
For example: operating system and browser types, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered into search engines, unique identifier numbers, IP addresses (to determine geo-locations), and other details.
There is a high probability that this information tracking will lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft, and therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall Mobius Radio from your systems.
Mobius Radio is similar to other rogue applications that employ bundling as an installation method. Some examples are Astro Arcade, Meteoroids, and Zombie News among many others. None of these provide any real value for the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by displaying intrusive online advertisements as well as sharing collected information with third parties.
Research shows that most adware is distributed via small download programs (called 'installers', 'download clients', 'download managers', etc.) on freeware download websites such as softonic.com, soft32.com, and download.com.
Download programs are used to monetize these websites' free services by offering installation of promoted (according to the developers '100% virus-free') browser add-ons together with the chosen software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often leads to high-risk adware or malware infections.
Installation of Mobius Radio, or other similar PUPs, can be avoided by closely observing each step of the free software download process and never accepting installation of any additional programs offered.
Furthermore, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
If you have infected your computer with Mobius Radio, read the removal instructions provided and eliminate this adware from your Internet browsers.
