What is Spark Cast?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, Spark Cast is a rogue browser plug-in claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and other similar functions.
On initial inspection, this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, be aware that Spark Cast is considered to be adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP) since it employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional applications together with the chosen software) to install on Internet browsers without users' permission.
After successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, Spark Cast generates numerous intrusive online advertisements such as transitional, interstitial, banner, full-page, pop-up, and search ads. There is a high probability that clicking these advertisements will cause high-risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since Spark Cast records various hardware and software information that is likely to be personally identifiable.
For example: search queries entered into search engines, website URLs visited, pages viewed, unique identifier numbers, IP addresses (to determine users' geographic locations), and other similar details. This information tracking may result in serious privacy issues or identity theft.
SuperWeb LLC has released many rogue browser extensions that are identical to Spark Cast. Examples include Platamoose, AppSuper, and Framed Display among many others.
None of these applications provide any real value for the user - this company releases identical browser plug-ins under different names with the intention of avoiding detection by legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware programs.
The purpose of these add-ons is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads, and therefore, you are strongly advised to eliminate Spark Cast from your Internet browsers.
Research shows that most users infect their computers with adware during download of free software via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com.
Download clients are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of promoted '100% virus-free' browser extensions together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
This situation can be prevented by closely observing each step of the free software download procedure and clicking 'Decline' if installation of any additional programs is offered. Furthermore, if you are installing downloaded software, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
If you have installed Spark Cast, and you experience intrusive online ads while surfing the Internet, read the removal instructions provided and eliminate this adware from your Internet browsers.
