ShoppingAdd-On Virus

What is ShoppingAdd-On?
Compatible with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, the ShoppingAdd-On browser add-on displays various coupon and deals advertisements when users visit online shopping websites. While this added functionality (and potential to save money when shopping online) may seem legitimate, in fact, ShoppingAdd-On is categorized as adware.
Creators of this browser extension 'bundle' it together with free software, and therefore, most Internet users feel that ShoppingAdd-On was installed on their computers without consent.
Furthermore, this add-on diminishes Internet browser performance and may cause serious privacy issues. ShoppingAdd-On tracks users' Internet browsing activity by recording information regarding web pages visited including impressions, clicks, and search terms used.
Today, most free software download websites (including download.com, soft32.com, etc.) employ 'download clients' to monetize their free software downloads. These small programs often promote free browser add-ons (including ShoppingAdd-On), and some use a deceptive user interface, which hides the 'decline' button.
Therefore, computer users should be attentive when downloading free software. The ShoppingAdd-on browser extension is not technically a computer virus or malware, however, it is a potentially unwanted application and should be eliminated from your Internet browser/s.
ShoppingAdd-On is similar to other adware including, for example, Savings Hen, SavePass, Bubble Dock, and MarkKit, amongst many others. These browser add-ons are promoted via a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'.
The best way to avoid installation of potentially unwanted browser plug-ins is to inspect each installation step of any free software downloaded from the Internet. If your download is managed by a download client, look for the 'decline' button - this will allow you to skip installation of promoted applications (commonly, adware).
When installing freeware, choose the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any bundled browser add-ons. If you observe coupon ads generated by ShoppingAdd-On on your system, and wish to eliminate them, use the removal guide provided.
