WebInternetSecurity Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is WebInternetSecurity?
The WebInternetSecurity application claims to protect users whilst surfing the Internet by warning of suspicious sites and blocking dangerous content. WebInternetSecurity is developed to work with Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Mozilla Firefox, and while its initiative to protect Internet users from malware infections is valid, this application has some downsides.
For example, it displays unwanted online ads, which computer users may find difficult to remove. Furthermore, it is unclear which company is responsible for developing and supporting this product.
Another downside of WebInternetSecurity app is that it tracks users' Internet browsing activity by recording URLs visited and search queries entered within Internet search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.) This information can be personally identifiable, and therefore, the presence of this add-on on your system may lead to serious privacy issues and identity theft.
To protect your computer and browsers from potential threats, choose trusted antivirus and anti-spyware programs. Inadvertent applications installation can occur when users install free software downloaded from the Internet, and since WebInternetSecurity is ad-supported, it may be bundled with free software for monetization purposes.
To avoid installation of unwanted browser toolbars and add-ons, which may lead to redirects and unwanted ad issues, install free software with caution - check each installation window carefully, opt-out out of any browser add-ons, and disallow changes to the browser homepage and default search engine settings.
Although WebInternetSecurity is not directly linked to malware or virus infections, having this browser add-on installed on your computer is not recommended.
WebInternetSecurity displays unwanted advertising, diminishes Internet browsing performance, and is developed by an unknown company. If you care about computer safety, choose applications developed by reputable security companies. This potentially unwanted application is identical to BrowserSafeGuard adware.
Most potentially unwanted applications are distributed via small programs called 'download clients' within freeware download websites including, for example, download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, and many others.
Download clients are used by these websites to monetize their free services by offering installation of promoted browser extensions together with the chosen free software. Therefore, careless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
This situation can be prevented by closely observing each step during download of free software and never accepting installation of any additional applications offered.
If you are installing downloaded software, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Regular' - this will reveal any bundled applications attempting stealth installation, and you will be able to decline them.
Users who have installed WebInternetSecurity and observe unwanted online advertisements when browsing the Internet, should follow this removal guide to eliminate this adware from their computers.
