What is Ads on Images?
Recently, many computer users reported that they observed unwanted ads appearing upon images when surfing the Internet. According to the reports, the ads appeared in Facebook, Wikipedia, MSN, etc. Following some research, our security team discovered that there is a new browser add-on (adware) distributed using freeware downloads.
This causes unwanted ads to appear on all images present in various websites. This browser add-on is called 'Services x86' and is installed on users' Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox) together with free software. This browser add-on is especially rogue, since at time of testing, it was installed without permission using silent installers.
Many adware or potentially unwanted program installations can be avoided by un-checking options during the freeware installation phase. In the case of Services x86, however, the browser add-on was installed without providing any opt-out facility.
Today, many download websites and freeware developers bundle their software or downloads with browser add-ons, toolbars, etc. in order to monetize their free services. Most implement these legitimately without using silent installers.
The Services x86 browser plug-in is adware, and therefore, it is recommended that you eliminate this worthless extension from your Internet browsers - having it installed can lead to additional unwanted software or even malware installation.
Services x86 is a new kind of adware, which displays ads upon any images displayed within websites. It is distributed using free software downloads (installers). To avoid inadvertently installing this adware on your computer, download free software from legitimate sources only.
Furthermore, always use legitimate antivirus and anti-spyware software, which prevents installation of unwanted software. If you observe unwanted ads appearing upon images when browsing the Internet, use the removal guide provided to eliminate Services x86 adware from your system.
