What is Politie Korps Landelijke Politiediensten?
The Politie Korps Landelijke Politiediensten (Illegat activiteit gedetecteerd!) message is a scam created by Cyber criminals to trick PC users into paying a bogus fine. This deceptive message is a ransomware infection demanding payment of a 100 Euro for supposedly downloading copyrighted content from the Internet.
Do not pay this fine - you will send your money to cyber criminals and your computer will remain blocked. This particular ransomware infection targets computer users from the Netherlands, however, these infections are often localized - the same ransomware infection on a computer located in the USA may appear as if delivered by the FBI and translated into English.
To make these deceptive messages appear authentic, cyber criminals exploit the names of local authorities, in this case, the Korps Landelijke Politiediensten. In fact, the Netherlands police do not send messages such as this. No legitimate authorities use screen lockers to collect fines for law violations.
If you observe a message such as this, stating that you have to pay a fine, your computer is infected with ransomware.
Cyber criminals who develop this scam use pre-paid cards for money transactions (for example, Ukash, paysafecard). In addition, prior to infiltrating users' systems, ransomware infections are capable of detecting computer IP addresses, and thus present users with a localized version of the bogus message.
Politie Korps Landelijke Politiediensten ransomware is distributed using 'bot nets', which exploit security vulnerabilities within users' computers in order to infiltrate them.
These infiltrations can be prevented by frequently updating your operating system and installed programs. To secure your computer, use legitimate antivirus and antispyware programs. If you see this type of message blocking your computer, do not pay the bogus fine. The best way to deal with this ransomware is to eliminate it from your PC.
