Removal notifications (ads) delivered by websites from the free-tl group

Also Known As: Ads by free-tl website group
Damage level: Medium

What kind of pages are free-tl?

During a routine investigation, our research team discovered a group of rogue webpages that share the "free-tl" domain. Free-tl-100-e[.]buzz is an example of a page belonging to this family; sites from this group can differ by the numbers and/or letters in their URLs.

Free-tl pages are designed to promote deceptive content and browser notification spam. Additionally, they can generate redirects to other (likely dubious/malicious) websites.

The majority of visitors to free-tl webpages and others akin to them gain access through redirects caused by sites that utilize rogue advertising networks.

Free-tl website group overview

It must be mentioned that the behavior of rogue websites might differ based on the visitor's IP address (geolocation). In other words, this information may dictate the content encountered on and through these pages.

The purpose of webpages like those in the free-tl group is to trick visitors into allowing browser notification delivery. These sites use various lures to deceive users into consenting, such as fake CAPTCHA verification tests, clickbait, adult-oriented content, and so on.

For example, when we inspected free-tl-100-e[.]buzz (a page from the free-tl family), it displayed a cartoon-style robot saying – "PRESS THE 'ALLOW' BUTTON TO VERIFY YOU'RE HUMAN!". This CAPTCHA test is fake, and by completing it – users inadvertently permit the webpage to spam them with notifications.

Rogue websites use their browser notifications to run intrusive advert campaigns. These advertisements can promote online scams, unreliable/harmful software, and even malware.

Additionally, pages like free-tl can host scams like "AVG - Your PC Is Infected With 18 Viruses", "WARNING: Antivirus Protection EXPIRED!", "McAfee - Subscription Payment Failed", "McAfee - Your Computer Is Severely Damaged", and so forth.

To summarize, through sites like free-tl – users may experience system infections, serious privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft.

Browser notification spam in general

We have investigated thousands of rogue webpages; loadextremelysophisticatedthe-file[.]topkzos[.]xyz, and peritosusa[.]top are merely a few of our latest articles. These pages deliver browser notifications promoting deceptive and malicious content.

While legitimate products or services may be encountered via these adverts – they are unlikely to be endorsed in this fashion by any official parties. It is most probable that this endorsement is performed by scammers seeking to acquire illegitimate commissions by abusing the promoted content's affiliate programs.

How did a free-tl page gain permission to deliver spam notifications?

Websites require user consent to deliver browser notifications. Therefore, if you are receiving these ads from a free-tl webpage – it is evident that when this site was accessed, permission for their delivery was granted by clicking "Allow", "Allow Notifications", or a similar option.

How to prevent deceptive sites from delivering spam notifications?

We strongly recommend always being selective when enabling websites to display browser notifications. Suspicious pages must not be permitted to deliver these advertisements; instead, such requests have to be ignored or denied (i.e., by pressing "Block", "Block Notifications", etc.).

Should you keep experiencing continuous unprompted redirects to dubious sites, it could be caused by adware installed on the browser or system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why am I seeing ads (browser notifications) delivered by free-tl in the right lower corner of my desktop?

Websites cannot deliver browser notifications (adverts) without user consent. Hence, you have likely entered a free-tl page at some point and clicked "Allow", "Allow Notifications", or an analogous option – thereby permitting the notification/ad delivery.

I have clicked on notification ads, is my computer infected?

Clicking on a browser notification is harmless in itself. However, that does not apply to the content these advertisements may endorse. Spam notifications commonly push websites/software that can cause system infections and other severe issues.

Is free-tl a virus?

Sites like free-tl are not considered to be viruses, but they can endorse virulent content. Rogue webpages often promote online scams, unreliable/harmful software, and even malware.

Will Combo Cleaner remove free-tl ads automatically or manual steps are still required?

Yes, Combo Cleaner can scan devices and revoke the permissions given to the free-tl pages. Combo Cleaner can also restrict all further access to these and other rogue, deceptive/scam, and malicious websites. Therefore, no additional steps will be necessary.
