How to remove AnalysisStyle adware and the adverts it delivers

Also Known As: Ads by AnalysisStyle
Type: Mac Virus
Damage level: Medium

What kind of application is AnalysisStyle?

AnalysisStyle is an adware-type application discovered by our research team while reviewing new file submissions to the VirusTotal website. This application is part of the AdLoad malware family. AnalysisStyle is designed to generate revenue for its developers through advertising.

AnalysisStyle adware

AnalysisStyle adware overview

Adware stands for advertising-supported software. It typically operates by feeding users with undesirable and potentially malicious ads. This third-party graphical content can be displayed on visited websites or different interfaces.

It must be mentioned that specific conditions may be required for adware to work as designed (e.g., compatible browser/system or user geolocation, visits to particular sites, etc.). However, even if AnalysisStyle does not deliver adverts – it remains a threat to device and user safety.

Adware-displayed advertisements primarily promote scams, untrustworthy/hazardous software, and even malware. Some of the ads can be triggered (by being clicked) to perform sneaky downloads/installations.

It is noteworthy that while legitimate products or services may be encountered through these advertisements – they are unlikely to be endorsed in this manner by any official parties. It is most probable that this promotion is performed by scammers who abuse the content's affiliate programs to obtain illegitimate commissions.

We have found many AdLoad adware samples with browser-hijacking abilities – however, we did not observe these qualities while analyzing the AnalysisStyle application.

Advertising-supported software typically collects sensitive user data, and AnalysisStyle might possess such functionalities. Targeted information may include: URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, browser cookies, usernames/passwords, personally identifiable details, credit card numbers, and so forth. This vulnerable data can then be shared with and/or sold to third-parties.

In summary, software like AnalysisStyle may cause system infections, serious privacy issues, financial losses, and identity theft.

Adware examples

LogicalToolValidNatural, and DefaultConfig are but a few examples of adware-type apps we have investigated recently. Software within this classification rarely appears suspicious. Adware can also use fake features to lure users into downloading/installing.

However, it must be stressed that even if an application or a browser extension operates as promised – that is not definitive proof of either legitimacy or safety.

How did AnalysisStyle install on my computer?

The bundling marketing tactic, which entails packing regular program installers with unwanted/malicious additions – is used to distribute adware.

Download from untrustworthy sources (e.g., freeware and free file-hosting websites, P2P sharing networks, etc.) and rushed installations (e.g., used "Quick/Easy" settings, etc.) – increase the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content into the device.

Adware can also have "official" promotional webpages, and it is endorsed on scam sites. The main access points to these pages are redirects generated by websites employing rogue advertising networks, intrusive ads, spam browser notifications, mistyped URLs, or installed adware (with the ability to force-open webpages).

Intrusive adverts proliferate advertising-supported software as well. Once clicked on, some of these adverts can execute scripts to perform downloads/installations without user consent.

How to avoid installation of adware?

We strongly advise researching software and downloading it only from official/verified channels. When installing, it is essential to read terms, study available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opt out of all supplementary apps, tools, extensions, features, and so forth.

Another recommendation is to be careful while browsing since fake and malicious online content typically appears genuine and harmless. For example, while intrusive ads may look innocuous – they redirect to highly questionable websites (e.g., scam-promoting, gambling, adult dating, pornography, etc.).

If you keep encountering advertisements and/or redirects of this kind, check the device and immediately remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with AnalysisStyle, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
