What kind of malware is MgBot?

MgBot was also employed to infiltrate a variety of malicious content onto victims' systems, including the legitimate executable file of AnyDesk – a genuine remote access program. The use of such software is not uncommon for cyber criminals and scammers alike (e.g., UltraViewer scam, TeamViewer scam, etc.) since these programs can operate as remote access trojans, although without the element of stealth.
MgBot could be used to download/install other executables. Theoretically, a program capable of causing chain infections could introduce just about any type of malware into the compromised system (e.g., trojans, ransomware, cryptominers, etc.). However, such loader programs typically operate within certain limitations that curtail their chain infection capabilities.
Furthermore, MgBot employs multiple plug-ins. Amongst these components is an information stealer capable of extracting data from the Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers. Stealers of this kind primarily target the following information: browsing and search engine histories, bookmarks, Internet cookies, log-in credentials (usernames/passwords), personally identifiable details, credit card numbers, etc.
MgBot also uses credential stealers targeting said data from Outlook and Foxmail email clients. Another stealer plug-in aims to obtain credentials from the QQ messenger, and it operates as a keylogger for this messaging platform (i.e., the plug-in can record keystrokes).
Additionally, MgBot's components include an audio recorder that uses the device's microphone to obtain sound recordings. Another plug-in steals clipboard content (i.e., information copied into the copy/paste buffer) as well as drag and drop data.
To summarize, malware frameworks like MgBot can cause multiple system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even lead to identity theft.

Windows 10 users: Click the Windows logo and select the Power icon. In the opened menu click "Restart" while holding "Shift" button on your keyboard. In the "choose an option" window click on the "Troubleshoot", next select "Advanced options".
In the advanced options menu select "Startup Settings" and click on the "Restart" button. In the following window you should click the "F5" button on your keyboard. This will restart your operating system in safe mode with networking.

Extract the downloaded archive and run the Autoruns.exe file.
In the Autoruns application, click "Options" at the top and uncheck "Hide Empty Locations" and "Hide Windows Entries" options. After this procedure, click the "Refresh" icon.
Check the list provided by the Autoruns application and locate the malware file that you want to eliminate.
You should write down its full path and name. Note that some malware hides process names under legitimate Windows process names. At this stage, it is very important to avoid removing system files. After you locate the suspicious program you wish to remove, right click your mouse over its name and choose "Delete".
After removing the malware through the Autoruns application (this ensures that the malware will not run automatically on the next system startup), you should search for the malware name on your computer. Be sure to enable hidden files and folders before proceeding. If you find the filename of the malware, be sure to remove it.
Reboot your computer in normal mode. Following these steps should remove any malware from your computer. Note that manual threat removal requires advanced computer skills. If you do not have these skills, leave malware removal to antivirus and anti-malware programs.
